    Description: Latin America, the United States of America, religion, and politics are ingredients of a brew with considerable explosive power. The four terms denote factors in a complex and, for the most part, violently intertwined relationship. Historically, this relation has been shaped primarily by the Protestant mission in Latin America and its Pan-American objectives. Yet, this mission now belongs to the past. The once American religiosity of the missionaries has taken different and more charismatic forms under the conflicting conditions of life in Latin America and today is shaped in particular by the class antagonisms of the subcontinent. However, this does not mean that some evangelical organizations do not continue to represent political interests of their Northern neighbor, or that vice versa,the political religiosity of the South does not contribute to ideological struggles in the United States, either through Liberation Theology in the 1980s, or today through the solidarity with Latin American migrants. The present book visualises the logic of the inter-American entanglements by tracing and interpreting exemplary developments and conflicts, framing the narrative plot between two important religious events in 1916 and 2016.

    Description: The contemporary state of affairs, however, is way too complex to presuppose that a simple formula will be enough to synthesize all its multiple facets. The fact that both our institutions and our mental life are regulated by communication is more and more evident. It is also clear that human history should submit itself to a democratic consensus, and that contemporary societies have to proclaim themselves democratic, pretending many times they are following a consensus that must be the kernel of collective and of individual development. This consensus, however, is itself also being submitted to an all-encompassing social experiment. Such an experiment is permanently looking for new laws and new accomplishments, because in complying with the scientific model, it presupposes that laws previously valid, and previous social accomplishments no longer apply because social life is in need of being reinvented and people should live in harmony the new laws. The individuals are therefore entangled in this continuous reconfiguration of their institutions and of themselves. They are nolens volens obliged to judge this perpetual renewal of their social tissue in order to secure their own personal life. This book is an answer to the now globally widespread need of judgment by everyone of the results of this continuous reconfiguration, and although it does not claim any final conclusion, it sums up many important views about our time, coming from human and social that should be an important contribution to the construction a humanity worth living.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: "At the time of this book’s publication, almost seven years have passed since the dramatic and brutal terror attacks at Norway’s Government Headquarters in Oslo and the island of Utøya on 22 July 2011. How have we coped during this time? Which values have been important? Have we managed to protect the ideals of democracy, openness and humanity? And not least: Who is this ""we"" that we are referring to? This scholarly anthology includes articles from researchers associated with the project NECORE (Negotiating Values: Collective Identities and Resilience after 22 July) and other researchers whose work is closely associated with the project. They give us insights, opinions and sharp perspectives on not just 22 July, but also about Norway today, about values, identities and resilience in Norwegian society in the wake of the terror attacks. An important backdrop for the book and the project is the assertion that, as the events themselves recede into the past, it is even more important to focus on what the terror events have led to and how we can learn from them. In a world where terrorism has become an all too common part of political reality, it is crucial that we understand how we ought to think about terror, and how we as a society encounter it."

    Description: "The health sector is a complex and dynamic conglomerate of services at local, regional and national levels. How to balance different considerations between new medical-professional knowledge, controlling expenses and local interests are among the permanent challenges facing political bodies when planning and structuring the services. The book is based upon institutionalist organisation theories, referring back to classic texts as well as present-day analyses. By taking a long-term perspective, and analysing one Norwegian county as a case study, the author addresses questions about how conflicts on hospital structure seemingly have been solved, and how the introduction of new management forms have changed the sector. One of the issues is how, in a 40 years’ perspective, different interest groups have seen their influence over health services and management forms have changed. In contrast to hypotheses that medical doctors would see their influence becoming reduced, the analyses show how medical actors, in an alliance with management consultants, have become more influential when innovations in health work and eventually organisation models are introduced. Regional political bodies and local community interests have lost much of their former role in restructuring processes. At the end of the book, the author makes some hypotheses about how health services will develop in the interface between ideas of a centralised, modern, high tech hospital model on one hand, and local and home based services on the other. These developments will in a nearby future most likely restructure the health sector once more. "
    Description: "Helsesektoren er i stadig endring. Utfordringene sektoren står overfor, dreier seg blant annet om å finne balansen mellom medisinsk-faglig utvikling, økonomiske rammer og geografiske hensyn. Organisasjons-, styrings- og ledelsesformer påvirker forholdet mellom disse hensynene, som ofte trekker tjenestene i ulike retninger. Et av de mest kontroversielle spørsmålene er hvilken sykehusstruktur som er mest hensiktsmessig. De siste årene har en på ny opplevd at protestene mot sentralisering av sykehussektoren er blitt sterkere. I debatten er det igjen blitt søkelys på de helsepolitiske spill og strategier som kjennetegner sektoren. Samtidig påvirkes tjenestene hele tiden av medisinsk-teknologiske innovasjoner, nye økonomistyringssystemer og innføring av «moderne» styrings- og ledelsesformer. I denne boken diskuteres hvordan en i Østfold håndterte utfordringene knyttet til sykehusstruktur, og hvordan det er skapt tilsynelatende ro om dette tidligere så betente spørsmålet. Forfatteren analyserer først de strategiene som førte til at sykehusdriften i fylket ble sentralisert og et nytt «supersykehus» på Kalnes ble bygget. Deretter blir noen kjennetegn ved organisasjons- og ledelsesformer i det nye sykehuset drøftet. Avslutningsvis diskuteres de underliggende utviklingstendenser som kan peke mot fremtidens sykehustjenester innenfor et mer helhetlig «helsesystem», som også omfatter lokale helsetjenester. Analysen er basert på moderne organisasjons- og ledelsesteorier. Et sentralt spørsmål her er hvordan institusjonelle særtrekk ved sektoren har betydning for de endringene som har skjedd de siste 40 -50 årene. Målgruppen for boken er forskere, universitets- og høgskoleansatte og studenter i samfunnsvitenskapelige fag relatert til helsesektoren. Boken vil også gi ny kunnskap til ansatte i sektoren, og andre som er opptatt av helse- og velferdspolitiske spørsmål."
