Description: Hugo von Hofmannsthal's Elektra constitutes an important turning point in the transition from early lyric to theatre. Inspired by Sophocles' drama, but with elements more similar to Euripides', it proposes a linguistic connotation, characterisation of the characters and a completely innovative and unconventional staging. Blood, a concrete representation of the unprecedented violence that characterises the entire drama, is the red thread that links the succession of events. Words turn into weapons and the protagonist's thirst for vengeance drives the action. The finale culminates in a supreme act of violence that sees the roles reversed: the executioners become victims and the victims executioners. This is the only solution to end the circle of brutal suffering.

Description: "In 1994, at the age of twenty five years old, when the terrible “shattering that comes with the sexual assault ”doubled deep into her body and thoughts of suicide were always around, Erin Manning wrote The Perfect Manga on a almost feverish state: nineteen chapters in nineteen days, a kind self-rescue operation where writing has become a way of make (and feel) life in another way. Over these nineteen days, and although not able to fully articulate to herself at the time, Manning was written inside “a composition that asks what otherwise life could be lived. ” And in the rhythms of this composition, which was also a life, Manning was and is able to decline the category and norm and immobility of the “victim” (while still understanding the inheritances violence) in order to follow the more-than-myself as well as the joy of “more than experience” Twenty-five years Manning later allows these earlier writings to find their way around the world, which is a way of giving “voice to these confused survival times ”while also asking us to we share (and help support) such moments as readers, that we consider “other ways of listening to the urgency of living”. Republishing the book now is giving it a place in the world in a way that honor your strength as something that is always beyond the claim of anyone, even from Manning. In this sense, The Perfect Manga invites us, with Manning, to be in excess of ourselves, and also to consider, in Manning's words, “as create conditions for living beyond the fierce belief of humanism that we, the privileged, the neurotypical, the still unscathed, the capable bodies, is that we hold the key to all perspectives in the theater of life ”. Finally, Manning Perfect Manga and Manning's reflections on its composition ask us to consider “living in the fierce celebration of a world invented by these ways of life that tear the white, neurotypical colonial fabric of life as the We know.""

Description: For Ágota Kristóf, theatrical and novel communication are not as clearly different as we would expect given the difference between the two literary genres. The first plays, written in French-speaking Switzerland starting from the end of the 1970s, contain those motifs that would later build the imaginative system of the most famous novels. Violence, latent or manifest, dominates all sentimentality and outlines, in its precise contours of abuse of the body, what will be the constant controversy in all of the writer's activity in the theatre, in the novel, in poetry. In the features of violence we see a detached testimony of social relationships, that accumulation of frustrations that causes individual events to transform into episodes of a broader human story.

Description: Moby Dick Rehearsed is a magnificent experiment in the style of Orson Welles, whose talent explores in depth the texture of Melville's novel in an attempt to put it on stage. The analysis shows how the play - performed in New York in 1955 - sheds light on Welles's idea of the theater as a laboratory to experiment with the possibilities of this peculiar form of entertainment. The novel's inner violence and theatrical power become evident when Welles stages a rehearsal of Moby Dick by a company of actors used to act in Shakespeare's Hamlet in 1955. The well-known influence of Shakespeare on Melville's novel emerges from the play, which became a book published by Samuel French in 1965 in New York. Its Italian translation by Cristina Viti - Moby Dick. Prove per un dramma in due atti - provides the base for Elio De Capitani's mise en scene of the play in Milan in 2022, under the title of Moby-Dick alla prova.

Description: What meaning does recognition have in the context of the rehabilitation of tyranny? This volume provides answers.

Description: How were accounts of war told in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern era? The contributions to this volume pursue this question in an innovative way through the combination of historical and literary methodologies. With the aid of this interdisciplinary approach, the texts examine storytelling practices and strategies which dissolved genre barriers between factual and fictional texts, thereby expanding insights with regard to their presentation of experience. This volume is not only a pioneering work of cultural studies research, but also an example of successful and productive interdisciplinary collaboration.

Description: In what ways do specialists follow crime policy programs within the context of the prevention of juvenile violence and what consequences does that have for social work and juveniles?

Description: Grand Theft Auto, Battlefield, Counterstrike – more and more, violence in computer games is becoming the subject of heated discussion. But what emotional experiences does the playful use of virtual violence make possible? Through participato observation in online games and at LAN parties and analyses of interviews, magazines, and videos, Christopher Bareither presents in detail how millions of people can take pleasure from that which would shock others. By refraining from judgmental cliches, this ethnographic study is able to provide a decisive contribution to a debate at the crossroads of popular culture, politics, and the public sphere.
