    Description: Die Novemberrevolution von 1918/19 erschütterte die Tiefenschichten der politischen und gesellschaftlichen Ordnung der Metropole Hamburg. Diese vielschichtige Transformation wird anhand ausgewählter Akteur*innen, Institutionen und Ereignisse mit Beiträgen aus der neueren Revolutions-, Konflikt- und Kriegsforschung sowie aus der Kulturwissenschaft, der Geschichts- und Sozialwissenschaft nachgezeichnet. Die Beiträger*innen des Bandes durchleuchten die Dynamiken des revolutionären Wandels im umfassenden Dispositiv der urbanen Machtverhältnisse in ihren diskursiven Formationen: im Geschlechterverhältnis, in den Klassenverhältnissen, in der Wirtschaft, im Bildungswesen, im Film, in den Utopien und Vorstellungen der Menschen der Zeit. Die Beschreibung der dynamischen Umbrüche schließt die Nachbarstadt Altona und die Region ein und verbindet somit Lokales mit Nationalem und Globalem.

Anhand der von konservativ bis liberal reichenden Standpunkte untersucht Barbara Krautwald die sich darin widerspiegelnden sozialen Entwicklungen von generellem weiblichen Selbstverständnis bis hin zum Frauenstudium.

Das neuartige »Medium Computer« entwickelte sich vielmehr in einem komplexen Wechselverhältnis von technologischen Innovationen, dem Wandel von Wirtschafts- und Wettbewerbspolitik sowie gegenkulturellen Strömungen. In seiner zeithistorischen Studie analysiert Matthias Röhr diesen durchwachsenen Verlauf und zeigt auf, wie die Bundespost in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren mit Bildschirmtext und ISDN auf diese Entwicklung reagierte, und warum Hackerkulturen als Reaktion hierauf für ein »Menschenrecht auf freien Datenaustausch« eintraten.

    Are U.S. Military Interventions Contagious over Time? (2023)

    Description: Current DoD force planning processes assume that U.S. military interventions are serially independent over time. This report challenges this assumption, arguing that interventions occur in temporally dependent clusters in which the likelihood of an intervention depends on interventions in the recent past. Integrating the concept of temporal dependence into DoD planning processes could help planners develop more appropriate force estimates.

    Description: A key finding of previous RAND research on insurgencies worldwide since World War II was that an overall score on a scorecard of 15 equally weighted good and 11 equally weighted bad counterinsurgency factors and practices distinguished conflicts’ historical outcomes. Using the scorecard approach and an expert elicitation exercise, a RAND study sought to extend the findings to the case of Afghanistan in 2015.
