    Description: A wide range of initiatives are aimed at the "sovereign teaching" that dominates universities and their lecture-oriented learning formats. Dissatisfied with low learning yield, dialogically designed learning processes are demanded. Klaus Günther's neurobiological perspective shows what is missing from the official learning constellation and what is possible in the dialogical learning constellation: teachers and learners meet in close communication and empathic proximity. Emotional pushing forces are generated in the learner's brain, on which the transfer of learning inputs depends on short-term memory to long-term memory. This is the only way to achieve a high learning yield - even when using digital media.
    Description: Gegen die an Hochschulen dominante „obrigkeitliche Lehre“ und ihre vorlesungsorientierten Lernformate richten sich vielfältige Initiativen. Unzufrieden mit geringem Lernertrag werden dialogisch angelegte Lernprozesse eingefordert. In der neurobiologischenn Perspektive von Klaus Günther zeigt sich, was der obrigkeitlichen Lern-Konstellation fehlt und was in der dialogischen Lern-Konstellation möglich wird: Es treffen sich Lehrpersonen und Lernende in Nah-Kommunikation und empathischer Nähe. Im Gehirn der Lernenden werden emotionale Schubkräfte erzeugt, von denen die Übertragung der Lerninputs vom Kurzzeitgedächtnis zum Langzeitgedächtnis abhängt. Nur so entsteht – auch unter Einsatz digitaler Medien – ein hoher Lernertrag.

    Description: University graduates face a multitude of challenges after graduation – including sustainability-related requirements in professional practice. But what should sustainability competence enable them to do in professional practice? What is the role of higher education institutions in the provision of sustainability-related study programmes? Corinne Ruesch Schweizer explores these questions, which are mostly discussed in normative terms, in a qualitative-empirical study and thus not only provides a sound basis for curricular decisions and reflections in higher education for sustainable development, but also makes a long-demanded specification of the concept of sustainability competence.

Damit liefert sie nicht nur eine empirisch-fundierte Entscheidungs- und Reflexionsgrundlage für die curriculare Gestaltung von Studienangeboten im Kontext der Hochschulbildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung, sondern zeigt auch die Relevanz des organisationalen Handlungskontextes für die Präzisierung der Nachhaltigkeitskompetenz auf.

    Description: What are the connections between space, control and world view? The author answers this question using the concept of cognitive mapping, which he presents and discusses as a theoretical concept of social analysis and as an empirical means of research. Surveillance - so his thesis - makes the examination and control of worldviews possible and thus becomes a form of social orientation. At the same time, worldviews also provide a basis for understanding attitudes towards surveillance measures. Surveillance in this sense is not a product of modernity, but occurs in all historical epochs and serves the organization of reality. Space and spatial notions of the world are shaped by the environment and the experiences people have in it. Socio-spatial conceptions are the origin of discourses of surveillance and are in turn influenced by forms of control. Worldviews can be used to trace attitudes and surveillance and the orientation patterns behind them. This book deals with these interrelations using the concept of cognitive mapping. This concept analyses causes and effects and explains how they play an important role in processes of social exclusion/integration or the possibilities of identity formation.

    Description: The book deals with the situation of humanities scholars in the labour market. The starting point of the seven empirical contributions is the discrimination of humanities scholars in comparison to other university graduates. This is reflected in an above-average unemployment rate, a significantly higher prevalence of precarious employments and often a comparatively low income. The aim of the book is to determine current options and future opportunities for this occupational group on the basis of a broad empirical survey of the humanities.
