Beschreibung:
The Paper deals with the one-dimensional consolidation of a clay layer which increases in thickness with time. The pore-water pressures are generated by the increasing weight of superincumbent material and the length of the drainage path varies. Because of these unusual features the standard methods of analysis are inapplicable except in the special instance when the thickness of the layer is proportional to t½.
It is shown that in general the problem can be reduced to a linear integral equation, a solution of which is obtained for the case of deposition at a constant rate. In conclusion an example is given of a numerical procedure for estimating the progress of consolidation in a rolled fill dam during construction.
