    Description: Du fait des nuisances et des épidémies qu’ils génèrent (dengue, fièvre à virus Chikungunya…), les moustiques de l’île de La Réunion sont régulièrement à la une de l’actualité, mais paradoxalement aucun ouvrage ne leur a été consacré jusqu’à présent. C’est désormais chose faite avec ce livre, qui rassemble les connaissances actuelles sur la systématique et la biologie des espèces réunionnaises et de l’ouest de l’océan Indien. Responsables d’épidémies touchant la population de l’île depuis plusieurs siècles, les peuplements de moustiques sont étroitement liés aux activités humaines, qui bien souvent ont entraîné leur installation sur ces milieux insulaires. Ce livre retrace à la fois les étapes du peuplement de La Réunion par ces insectes vecteurs et l’histoire des principales maladies transmises sur l’île. Il décrit les principaux moyens de protection mis en œuvre au niveau institutionnel et personnel. Des éléments de morphologie et de taxonomie permettent d’identifier les genres présents sur les îles du sud-ouest de l’océan Indien et les espèces de La Réunion. L’ouvrage présente également la taxonomie et la biologie de chacune de ces espèces, ainsi que leur importance médicale. Des cartes de répartition et des clés d’identification illustrées complètent l’information. Pédagogique et richement illustré, l’ouvrage s’adresse à un large public : acteurs de la santé publique, personnels de santé, habitants de La Réunion ainsi qu’étudiants, scientifiques et techniciens, qui pourront enrichir leurs connaissances sur l’origine, les modes de transmission et la gestion sanitaire des maladies à vecteurs dans l’ouest de l’océan Indien.
