    Description: The question of how to maintain the continuity of diplomacy while developing democracy without military intervention is an old and new issue. The challenge can be described as a dilemma between democracy and diplomatic coherence. This dilemma is not unique to the twenty-first century; it has been a constant challenge to the development of democracy. In non-Western countries, democratisation originated in the nineteenth century and has had many successes and failures. After the Russo-Japanese War, political parties began to take power in Japan. The best embodiment of diplomacy in Japan's emerging democracy—the development of parliamentary democracy and mass-based democracy—is Shidehara Kijūrō (1872–1951), who served as foreign minister from 1924 to 1927 and from 1929 to 1931, and was prime minister from 1945 to 1946. As a diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shidehara had long grappled with the issue of how to ensure diplomatic coherence in modern Japan, which was becoming increasingly democratic. Although Shidehara succeeded to some extent in promoting diplomacy in cooperation with the US and the UK under party politics, the rise of the military after the Manchurian Incident forced him to retire for a period. However, after the Pacific War, Shidehara became prime minister of the US-occupied Japan and attempted to restore cooperative diplomacy under party politics. Shidehara came to the conclusion that the way to achieve both democracy and diplomatic coherence was through nonpartisan diplomacy towards peace. This book examines the tension between diplomacy and democracy, focusing on Shidehara’s life and exploring modern Japan’s footsteps. Shidehara was undoubtedly one of Japan’s most important diplomatic figures.

    Description: The publication publishes excursions of the Ljubljana Geographical Society, carried out between April 2015 and May 2019. If we break down individual contributions according to their main characteristics, we can point out some interesting findings. Let us first mention their concentration in the western part of Slovenia. Southwestern Slovenia stands out as an area of strong regional dominance, with the participants taking advantage of two excursions to the wide-open state border with Italy, created by Slovenia's entry into the Schengen area. The variety of excursions according to the method of implementation is also noticeable. As a rule, classic bus transport is enriched by walking. Completely different logistics were needed to carry out a cycling excursion through the Slovenian and Italian Karst. There is a continuing tendency for geographical knowledge to increasingly complement the content of other disciplines, especially archeology and ethnology, which certainly enriches excursions due to a different view of the landscape and emphases that geographers usually ignore or do not know much about.
    Description: V publikaciji so objavljene ekskurzije Ljubljanskega geografskega društva, izvedene med aprilom 2015 in majem 2019. Če posamezne prispevke skušamo razčleniti po njihovih poglavitnih značilnostih, lahko izpostavimo nekaj zanimivih spoznanj. Naj najprej izpostavimo njihovo osredotočenost v zahodnem delu Slovenije. Kot območje izrazite regionalne prevlade izstopa jugozahodna Slovenija, pri čemer so udeleženci kar dveh ekskurzij s pridom izkoristili na široko razprto državno mejo z Italijo, nastalo z vstopom Slovenije v šengensko območje. Zaznavna je tudi raznovrstnost ekskurzij glede na način izvedbe. Klasične avtobusne prevoze praviloma popestri pešačenje. Povsem drugačna logistika je bila potrebna za izvedbo kolesarske ekskurzije po slovenskem in italijanskem Krasu. Nadaljuje se težnja, da geografska spoznanja v vse večji meri dopolnjujejo vsebine drugih disciplin, predvsem arheologije in etnologije, kar ekskurzije zagotovo bogati tako zaradi drugačnega videnja pokrajine kot poudarkov, ki jih geografi na svojih poteh navadno prezremo ali o njih ne vemo prav veliko.

    Description: V tokratni knjižici so pripravljeni opisi ekskurzij v slovenske robne pokrajine: Prekmurje, Belo krajino, Kočevsko, Bloško planoto, Baško grapo in Koprsko primorje. Razvrščene so od severovzhoda proti jugozahodu~nekoliko izstopa Baška grapa, edina obravnavana pokrajina v severozahodni Sloveniji. Strokovne opise so pripravili poznavalci, ki bodisi živijo v tamkajšnjem okolju bodisi od tam izvirajo njihove korenine in so z njimi še vedno ohranili tesne vezi, tudi v poglobljenem zanimanju zanje. Podrobni opisi posameznih ekskurzij navajajo priporočljive točke za postanke in temeljitejše oglede značilnih pojavov in procesov, ob tem pa nazorno predstavijo aktualne tematike. Ob številnih zemljevidih, skicah, shemah, grafikonih in fotografijah je podajanje dovolj poljudno, da je razumljivo tudi povprečno razgledanemu bralcu.

    Description: Au début du siècle dernier, le sultan du Maroc vient de signer un traité qui place désormais son pays sous le protectorat de la France (30 mars 1912). À l’ombre du maréchal Lyautey, un sultan de substitution, totalement soumis aux nouveaux maîtres français, a été proclamé. Cependant, nombreux sont ceux qui, au Maroc, refusent le fait accompli et se révoltent face à la mainmise étrangère sur le pays. Ainsi, dans le Sud marocain, Moulay Ahmed el Hiba, fils d’un marabout ouest-saharien (Ma el Aïnin), se fait proclamer sultan du Jihad en 1912 ; une première fois à Tiznit, la seconde à Marrakech. Ces événements ont donné naissance à un mouvement qui pendant plus de vingt ans (1912-1934) symbolisera pour ces populations berbères et ouest-sahariennes la résistance à l’avancée inéluctable des troupes coloniales françaises et espagnoles. Fondée sur une analyse croisée d’archives inédites, aussi bien françaises que marocaines, l’auteur fait la lumière sur un événement fondateur de la conquête coloniale du Maroc. Mythifiée, récupérée ou occultée, la figure fondatrice du mouvement hibiste est encore aujourd’hui le sujet d’un conflit mémoriel ayant pour objet l’Ouest saharien.

The goal of this volume is to present the wide variety of research findings on geographical information systems in Slovenia in recent years.     Description: On 24 May 1966, eight hundred men of the 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, landed at Nui Dat, in Viet Cong territory. For the next 12 months they were faced with the task of restoring peace, civil law and regular commerce to the Vietnamese of Phuoc Tuy province. This book is a detailed record of those months in the monsoon jungles—of the problems that were faced and the solutions that were found. Captain O’Neill’s position as battalion intelligence officer enabled him to view the war from the standpoint of the battalion as a whole. However, he does not omit description of personal feelings—towards the Viet Cong, the jungle environment and the Vietnamese people, as well as the other Allied forces involved in the war. Most of the book was written on the spot in Vietnam. On operations or at Battalion Headquarters, Captain O’Neill jotted down details of the war against the Viet Cong, putting the events of each day in order, often in the small hours of the following morning. Thus not only is this a factual account of the 5th Battalion’s activities over the year; it is also a vivid and compelling picture of the war in Vietnam from the soldier’s point of view.

    Description: The authors of the volume ('From May ’68 to November ’89: Transformations of the World, Literature, and Theory') intervene in the study of the student movement’s “rehearsal” for a world revolution and its afterlife in the 1980s and 1990s by addressing two hitherto neglected aspects – the literary and the peripheral. They consider the roles played by the (semi-)periphery of the modern world-system, on the one hand, and modernist literature and theory, on the other, in transforming the existing world order in the fields of culture, politics, economy, and everyday life. How were critical theory and neo-avant-garde literature in the world, in Slovenia, and in Yugoslavia intertwined with the student protest that advocated the transformation of the capitalist world-system and its socialist counterpart? The monograph focuses on the processes that connected the events of 1968 and 1989 in the social, literary, and theoretical spheres in the sign of continuity and turning points, and at the same time defined our contemporary world.

    Description: Managing Cultural Heritage AreasComprehensive planning for cultural heritage areas must bring together social, cultural, economic, transport, and environmental aspects and promote active inclusion of various, and even conflicting, interest groups in a guided participatory process. In order for managers of such areas to best equip themselves with useful information, this book presents various topics that are important from the perspective of cultural heritage management: classification of cultural heritage, the role of UNESCO and its guidelines in protecting cultural heritage, and theoretical views on cultural heritage preservation. This is followed by a planning section, which presents environmental planning in areas with cultural heritage, the role of cultural heritage and protecting it, revitalization of old urban cores, and restoration of historical buildings and town centers.

    Description: Si l’histoire traditionnelle de l’hérésie au Moyen Âge s’est longtemps confondue avec celle des exclus de la société, l’approche récente se focalise davantage sur les diverses autorités qui, au coeur du pouvoir, élaborèrent la norme religieuse : l’hérésie n’existe que parce que l’orthodoxie en a d’abord décidé. Il reste que, loin de se présenter comme une essence immuable, elle s’impose tout au long du Moyen Âge comme un concept et une qualification d’une très grande plasticité. L’extension progressive du domaine de l’hérésie à de nombreuses formes de dissidence finit par lui assurer le statut d’un crime englobant. Cette enquête collective repose sur la conviction que c’est encore en se situant aux marges de l’hérésie, au contact d’activités répréhensibles voisines, telles que l’usure, la sorcellerie ou encore la rébellion politique, que l’on peut le mieux saisir les principes et les mécanismes de la fabrique de l’hérésie.

Quelles sont les raisons qui expliquent que cette bataille – une parmi tant d’autres qui ont émaillé les conflits du xxe siècle – a d’emblée revêtu une dimension historique pour les contemporains ? Pourquoi précisément cette opération militaire est-elle désormais régulièrement commémorée par autant de chefs d’État sous le regard des télévisions du monde entier ? Comment expliquer le statut si particulier acquis par cet événement au fil des décennies, jusqu’au projet d’inscription des plages du Débarquement au patrimoine de l’Unesco ? En revenant à la dramatisation des enjeux d’une bataille annoncée près de quatre années à l’avance, mais aussi aux ressorts politiques, idéologiques, économiques et culturels qui ont contribué à transcender l’événement en épopée, cet ouvrage s’interroge sur la quête d’identité de chacun des acteurs nationaux à travers l’évolution de leur mémoire. Ainsi peut-on mieux comprendre la surprenante transformation de l’épisode guerrier en symbole universel de paix et de liberté.

    Description: En 1626, une première compagnie par actions est formée à l’initiative de Richelieu pour mener la colonisation des Petites Antilles et organiser le trafic transatlantique. Elle repose sur les associés, des proches du cardinal, qui en possèdent le capital et en assurent la direction. En 1635, elle est réorganisée afin de pouvoir satisfaire d’une façon plus efficace les objectifs qui lui ont été fixés par la monarchie, à savoir, conquérir et peupler des terres et favoriser le commerce. Elle prend alors le nom de Compagnie des îles de l’Amérique. Sous sa conduite, les Français déjà établis à Saint-Christophe s’installent à la Guadeloupe et à la Martinique et affichent des prétentions sur la Grenade, Sainte-Croix, Saint- Martin et Saint-Barthélemy. Plusieurs milliers de colons tentent l’aventure en franchissant l’océan à la quête d’un meilleur avenir et de richesses. Les terres sont exploitées pour satisfaire les besoins de la métropole. Quelques grands domaines s’appuyant sur une main-d’œuvre constituée d’esclaves africains développent de nouvelles productions comme le sucre et l’indigo. Mais la Compagnie est bientôt confrontée à de multiples difficultés qui remettent en cause son fonctionnement et ses finalités. Les tensions dans les îles et les faibles retombées de sa politique économique conduisent les associés à cesser progressivement leurs activités à partir de 1649. Sa fin pourtant ne signifie pas l’échec de la colonisation française des Petites Antilles. L’héritage qu’elle lègue va fructifier durant les décennies suivantes et donner naissance au premier empire colonial français.

    Britain's Second Embassy to China (2021)

    Description: Lord Amherst's diplomatic mission to the Qing Court in 1816 was the second British embassy to China. The first led by Lord Macartney in 1793 had failed to achieve its goals. It was thought that Amherst had better prospects of success, but the intense diplomatic encounter that greeted his arrival ended badly. Amherst never appeared before the Jiaqing emperor and his embassy was expelled from Peking on the day it arrived. Historians have blamed Amherst for this outcome, citing his over-reliance on the advice of his Second Commissioner, Sir George Thomas Staunton, not to kowtow before the emperor. Detailed analysis of British sources reveal that Amherst was well informed on the kowtow issue and made his own decision for which he took full responsibility. Success was always unlikely because of irreconcilable differences in approach. China’s conduct of foreign relations based on the tributary system required submission to the emperor, thus relegating all foreign emissaries and the rulers they represented to vassal status, whereas British diplomatic practice was centred on negotiation and Westphalian principles of equality between nations. The Amherst embassy’s failure revised British assessments of China and led some observers to believe that force, rather than diplomacy, might be required in future to achieve British goals. The Opium War of 1840 that followed set a precedent for foreign interference in China, resulting in a century of 'humiliation’. This resonates today in President Xi Jinping’s call for ‘National Rejuvenation’ to restore China’s historic place at the centre of a new Sino-centric global order.

Mais leur histoire n’a pas été un long fleuve tranquille : les Éditions du Cerf ont traversé bien des orages du fait de leurs positions d’ouverture sur les grandes crises du xxe siècle : condamnation par Rome de l’Action française, guerre d’Espagne, Seconde Guerre mondiale, guerre froide ou guerre d’Algérie. C’est ce parcours mouvementé, conjuguant histoire générale et histoire religieuse, que retrace ce livre, rédigé de première main par un universitaire familier de tels événements, avec les archives des provinces dominicaines françaises. Il éclaire tout un pan de l’histoire du catholicisme en France au xxe siècle.

While they have stayed true to the aim of advancing women's status, their work has been buffeted by national political upheavals and changing global and regional directions in development policy-making. This book documents how women activists have understood and responded to these challenges. It is the first book to write women into Fiji's postcolonial history, providing a detailed historical account of that country's gender politics across four tumultuous decades. It is also the first to examine the 'situated' nature of gender advocacy in the Pacific Islands more broadly. L’épanouissement de ce phénomène urbain sous le règne de Louis XIV a tôt fait de le faire assimiler au volontarisme politique du monarque absolu. Cette interprétation longtemps vivace a eu pour effet de passer sous silence l’action décisive des populations, des habitants des villes eux-mêmes, face à ces aménagements urbains. À partir des embellissements qu’ont connus les villes d’Aix et de Marseille au milieu du xviie siècle, cet ouvrage permet de revenir sur ces événements qui ont profondément marqué l’organisation de nos villes. En reléguant au second plan les aspects architecturaux et monumentaux de ces accroissements d’ampleur, pour se concentrer sur les processus juridiques et sociaux qui encadrent et accompagnent ces opérations urbaines, ce livre éclaire sous un jour nouveau l’action des habitants les plus divers dans ces projets. À partir d’un éventail documentaire particulièrement varié, ce sont plus largement les modes de production de l’espace des sociétés anciennes qui se trouvent mis en lumière.     Description: A good knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage of karst is a precondition for the rational planning of life on it. We try to organize the knowledge to make it as useful as possible for planners. We are involved in individual projects related to the regional planning, water supply systems, the construction of transportation infrastructure, the closure of landfills in karst areas, the collection of data on karst caves and their protection, karst ecology and determining the extent of human influence on the karst underground. A new book series Karstology and development challenges on karst was designed to present the results of completed and new projects to a broader public.The first book with the subtitle Water contains selected directly applicable research studies on karst waters, their characteristics, endangerment, and protection. It is composed of ten chapters, which can be grouped into three main themes. In the introduction the importance, characteristics and vulnerability of karst aquifers are presented,then various case studies of pollution and endangerment are described (traffic, landfills, military objects, flooding), and at the end some guidelines for the protection of karst water sources are summarized. The book is a bilingual publication in Slovene and English. It is aimed at a broad circle of users, researchers, students and planners.

Vključeni smo v posamezne projekte regionalnega načrtovanja, oskrbe z vodo, gradnje prometnic, zapiranja odlagališč na krasu, zbiranja podatkov o kraških jamah in njihovega varovanja, kraške ekologije in ugotavljanja človekovega vpliva na kras. Za predstavitev svežih izsledkov širši javnosti smo oblikovali serijo Krasoslovje v razvojnih izzivih na krasu. V prvi knjigi s podnaslovom Voda smo združili izbrane neposredno uporabne študije o kraških vodah, njihovih značilnostih, ogroženosti in varovanju. Sestavljena je iz desetih poglavij, ki jih lahko razdelimo v tri sklope. V uvodu so predstavljeni pomen, značilnosti in ranljivost kraških vodonosnikov, sledijo različni primeri ogroženosti kraških vod (prometnice, odlagališča odpadkov, vojaški objekti, poplave), na koncu pa je zbranih še nekaj smernic za varovanje kraških vodnih virov.

Demografske, podnebne, gospodarske in družbene spremembe zahtevajo nove pristope, sveže ideje, predvsem pa sistematičnost v prepoznavanju razvojnih smernic, idej, razvojnih priložnosti in dejavnikov, ki bodo ob skupnem delovanju lahko vodili v bolj uravnotežen razvoj države na vseh področjih. Pri tem je skladen razvoj odgovornost vseh, dosežemo pa ga lahko le skupaj.

Alors que le phénomène du clientélisme a déjà fait l’objet de plusieurs études en sociologie et sciences politiques, cette pratique originale a moins retenu l’attention des historiens du politique. Spécialiste de l’histoire politique française contemporaine, Julie Bour entend étudier les acteurs, causes, modalités et limites du clientélisme via une approche quantitative originale et inédite, reposant sur l’exploitation statistique de corpus importants de courriers de recommandation, dépassant parfois les milliers de lettres entre les élus et leurs administrés et portant sur des dossiers sensibles, symboliques ou plus prosaïques (emplois, décorations, service militaire, aide sociale, affaires communales, etc.). Elle concentre son analyse sur un espace test particulier qui est celui de la Lorraine et l’appréhende sur le temps long qui va de la IIIe République aux années 2000. Au travers d’études de cas portant sur des élus célèbres (Louis Jacquinot, Pierre Messmer, François Guillaume, Christian Pierret) ou plus anonymes (Jean Bernard, Jules Develle, André Savard) qui représentent l’ensemble des courants politiques, le clientélisme apparaît pour ce qu’il est réellement : une pratique très répandue (et non limité à un Sud méditerranéen arriéré), qui structure la vie politique locale, mobilise tout un réseau d’intercesseurs relais, crée des solidarités fines entre l’élu et les électeurs, et joue un rôle parfois déterminant dans l’élection et la longévité politique de certains parlementaires.     Description: The Habsburg Monarchy carried out its first modern official population census in 1857. Since 1869, censuses were conducted every ten years with the critical date of 31 December. The censuses took into account the present population. From 1880 onwards, they also included a section on everyday language/language of communication, on the basis of which it was thenceforth possible to determine the national structure of the population in the country, even though the question thusly formulated did not yield accurate results. It was especially before the census of 1910 that the Slovenes and other Slavic nations in the monarchy demanded the elimination of the section on everyday language (lingua d'uso, Umgangssprache) and the introduction of a new section on nationality or mother tongue. The last Austrian population census of 1910 is a characteristic and important event from the political history of the Slovenes in the Austrian Littoral: characteristic because of the conduct of city authorities carrying out the census, and important because it represented a political victory of the Slavic population, after the established inaccuracies forced the authorities to order a revision of the census. Both the Yugoslav and Italian sides used the census of 1910 as evidence in setting their territorial claims during the peace negotiations after the First and Second World Wars.
    Description: Habsburška monarhija je prvo moderno uradno štetje prebivalstva izvedla leta 1857. Od leta 1869 dalje so popise izvajali vsakih deset let s kritičnim datumom 31. december. Štetja so popisovala prisotno prebivalstvo. Od leta 1880 so popisi vsebovali tudi rubriko o občevalnem/pogovornem jeziku. Tako je bilo mogoče poslej ugotavljati narodnostno sestavo prebivalstva v državi, čeprav tako formulirano vprašanje ni dajalo natančnih rezultatov. Slovenci in drugi slovanski narodi v monarhiji so zlasti pred štetjem leta 1910 zahtevali ukinitev rubrike občevalni jezik (lingua d'uso, Umgangssprache) in uvedbo nove rubrike o narodnosti ali o maternem jeziku. Zadnje avstrijsko ljudsko štetje iz leta 1910 je značilen in pomemben dogodek iz politične zgodovine Slovencev v Avstrijskem Primorju. Značilen je zaradi ravnanja mestnih oblasti, ki so štetje izvajale. Pomemben je zato, ker prestavlja politično zmago slovanskega prebivalstva, saj je oblast zaradi ugotovljenih nepravilnosti odredila revizijo štetja. Štetje leta 1910 je služilo tako jugoslovanski kot italijanski strani za dokazno gradivo ob postavljanju ozemeljskih zahtev pri mirovnih pogajanjih po prvi in po drugi svetovni vojni.

    Description: The closing of the “Golden Gate” to the promised land, the United States of America, after the First World War triggered a new wave of migration to the developed countries of Europe, primarily France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. This was the time of the first Yugoslavia, officially known as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Part of these migrations included Slovene emigrants and their children. The interwar period was marked by a major economic crisis and intensified ideological and political pressures. The Catholic Church was a strong presence with regard to the emigrants. The book ('Slovene emigrants and Western Europe during the time of the first Yugoslavia') describes and analyses the emigrants’ everyday lives, the work of emigrant societies, the publication of emigrant newsletters, the work of emigrant teachers and priests, the work of consular offices, the organisation of contacts with the homeland, the organisation of children’s holiday camps, and the children’s pen-pal contacts all over the world. It discusses emigrant activities, the zeitgeist, creativity and contacts with the new environments. We also find numerous simple literary highlights in the emigrant contacts. Singing, acting and music were always and everywhere present among the emigrants, both during joyful celebrations and solemn occasions. The book gives us a deep insight into the world of the emigrants during the period between the two world wars.
    Description: Ko so se po prvi svetovni vojni zaprla »zlata vrata« v obljubljeno deželo, Združene države Amerike, se je sprožil nov izseljenski tok v razvite evropske države, predvsem v Francijo, Belgijo, Nizozemsko in Nemčijo. To je bil čas prve Jugoslavije. Del selitvenega dogajanja so predstavljali slovenski izseljenci, izseljenke in njihovi otroci. Čas med obema vojnama je bil zaznamovan z veliko gospodarsko krizo in s povečanimi ideološkimi in političnimi pritiski. Močno prisotna v odnosu do izseljencev je bila Katoliška cerkev. Knjiga temelji na prikazu in analizi izseljenskega vsakdana, delovanja izseljenskih društev, izdajanja izseljenskih glasil, delovanja učiteljev in duhovnikov v izseljenstvu, dela konzularnih predstavništev, organiziranosti stikov z domovino, organiziranja otroških počitniških kolonij, vzdrževanja pisemskih stikov otrok po svetu. Zajema izseljensko dejavnost, duh časa, ustvarjalnost in preproste literarne utrinke ter stike z novimi okolji. Petje, igre in glasba so bili med izseljenci prisotni vedno in povsod, tako ob veselih praznovanjih kot žalostnih dogodkih. Knjiga prinaša poglobljen pogled na izseljenski svet v obdobju med obema svetovnima vojnama.

    Description: With notary books we are not dealing with literary readings, but with abstracts of a mass of business manuscript agreements of various contents. The subject of this publication is the preserved parts of the third, ninth, and tenth notary fascicles from the Piran Branch Office of the Regional Archives of Koper. The fragments contain the models of documents created in the period 1284–1296. The authors of summaries in the preserved fragments of notary fascicles are Facina Grimaldi, Facina (Vitali?) and Francisscus de Malonbris.
    Description: Šesti zvezek piranskih notarskih knjig prinaša znanstveno-kritično objavo ohranjenih fragmentov treh notarskih knjig iz edinstvenega gradiva piranske izpostave Pokrajinskega arhiva Koper. Gre za dele tretje, devete in desete knjige. Prvi vsebuje 255, drugi 22 in tretji 422 skrčenih latinskih predlog notarskih listin iz razdobja 1284 do 1296. Vpisi v notarskih knjigah so pestrih vsebin in slikajo gospodarsko, družbeno in vsakdanje življenje v Piranu in okolici, nudijo podatke o prebivalstvu, njegovi etnični pripadnosti, o historični topografiji, pravni praksi itd. Kulturna dediščina notarskih knjig vpenja slovensko primorje v širši mediteranski prostor, ki ga je odlikovala praksa vodenja notarskih kodeksov. Objava vsebuje uvodno študijo, prepise izvirnikov, ki so opremljeni z datacijami, oznakami vsebin in opombami, ter imenski, pojmovni seznam in seznam vsebin vpisov. Ta pomagala olajšujejo uporabniku razumevanje in orientacijo v latinskem delu besedila. Uvodna študija, pojasnila k prepisom ter seznama pojmov in vsebin so – v želji spodbuditi širši krog uporabnikov k raziskavam preteklosti severozahodne Istre – prevedeni tudi v angleščino.

    Description: The purpose of the treatise is to present arguments for supplementing and changing orthographic rules and, at the same time, for confirming their adequacy. It is particularly questions on language use raised in public that draw attention to flaws in existing rules, to problems with interpreting them and to new, not yet recorded uses. The treatise comprises findings of 18 authors.
    Description: Namen monografije je predstaviti utemeljitve za dopolnitve in spremembe pravopisnih pravil, hkrati pa tudi za potrditev njihove ustreznosti. Pravopisna problematika se je po obdobju kritik ob izidu SP 2001 v zadnjem desetletju umaknila v ozadje in nova vprašanja niso bila več strokovno tematizirana v tolikšni meri, kot smo bili vajeni v preteklih obdobjih, čeprav ostajajo enako pereča. Zlasti javno zastavljena jezikovna vprašanja opozarjajo na pomanjkljivosti obstoječih pravil, na težave pri njihovem interpretiranju in na nove, še ne evidentirane položaje rabe. Monografijo, v kateri je svoja spoznanja strnilo 18 avtorjev, sestavljajo trije vsebinski sklopi: prispevki prvega sklopa umeščajo pravopisni dogovor v širše družbeno okolje, v drugem avtorji iščejo odgovore na posamezna tradicionalna, a še vedno odprta pravopisna vprašanja. V tretjem sklopu je odprto vprašanje posredništva in posrednikov pravopisa, terminologije, pravorečnih ter onomastičnih vprašanj v pravopisu. Iz prispevkov v monografiji je razvidna težnja po posodobitvi pravopisnih smernic, po večji avtentičnosti jezikovnega gradiva in odprtosti do že uveljavljenih slogovnih možnosti.

    Description: Cet ouvrage envisage l’histoire politique récente des disciplines scolaires à différentes échelles sur plusieurs continents. Il vise à éclairer les rapports entre cultures politiques et transmission scolaire des savoirs, tant aux États-Unis qu’en Europe occidentale, en Chine, en Russie ou dans les territoires ultramarins français. Alors que le rôle des disciplines scolaires dans la construction des États-nations commence à être bien connu, il est intéressant de comprendre comment les rapports entre sociétés, pouvoirs et disciplines scolaires ont évolué depuis 1945 et jusqu’à nos jours, dans des contextes démocratiques ou autoritaires. Sous l’effet de la démocratisation scolaire ou de l’emprise grandissante de l’évaluation, les facteurs qui déterminent l’organisation et le contenu des disciplines scolaires ont beaucoup changé. L’étude de ces transformations ne se fait pas uniquement à travers l’analyse des outils pédagogiques mais met ceux-ci en relation avec des changements plus larges concernant la géopolitique ou les politiques nationales, les évolutions démographiques, les changements des mentalités et des cultures transmises.

    Description: V vodniku je predstavljenih devet ekskurzij s severozahodnega dela slovenskega zamejskega prostora. Razvrščene so v obratni smeri urinega kazalca. Šest območij obiska (Ziljska dolina, Beljak z okoliškimi jezeri, Karavanke in Rož, Celovec in Gosposvetsko polje, južna pobočja Svinške planine in Velikovško čezdravje, Podjuna) v sodobnosti še lahko obravnavamo kot narodnostno mešana območja, dve območji (Labotska dolina, zgodovinski kraji severne Koroške) sta zaradi germanizacije ta status izgubili, območje pogorja Nockberge pa je že dolgo onstran severnega roba slovenskega narodnostnega ozemlja. Celotna avstrijska zvezna dežela Koroška se ponaša z bogato naravno, zgodovinsko in kulturno dediščino. Prežeta je z izrazitimi naravnimi lepotami, med katerimi lahko izpostavimo gore in jezera, pa tudi kulturnozgodovinskimi, kamor lahko uvrstimo privlačna stara mestna jedra, prvovrstno cerkveno dediščino ter slikovite, praviloma zelo dobro ohranjene gradove in skrbno vzdrževane grajske razvaline. Glavni sezoni sta pozimi, ko zaživijo prostrana smučišča, in poleti, ko se turisti preusmerijo k obalam tamkajšnjih, za avstrijske razmere zelo toplih jezer.

    Description: Soigner les pauvres, telle est la vocation de milliers de jeunes femmes qui, tout au long du xixe siècle, prennent le voile en France et concrétisent ainsi un désir de vie religieuse et de service. Cet engagement ouvre aux femmes des voies pour s’affirmer hors de la famille, dans l’espace public et le monde du travail. Infirmières ou pharmaciennes, responsables de services d’hôpitaux et d’hospices, ou gardes-malades à domicile, ce sont les « bonnes » sœurs du xixe siècle. Figures de la charité, elles sont aussi les chevilles ouvrières du système public de santé dont elles accompagnent la médicalisation. Dans une société confrontée à une nouvelle pauvreté massive et alors que l’Église catholique s’inquiète de la déchristianisation populaire, les sœurs soignantes répondent aux attentes sociales et sanitaires, religieuses et morales de leur temps. La laïcisation républicaine signe-t-elle leur disparition ? Rien n’est moins sûr à en regarder leur présence dans Paris au début du xxe siècle. S’appuyant sur de nombreuses archives des couvents et des institutions hospitalières, cette enquête questionne la vocation des sœurs soignantes dans leur quotidien auprès des pauvres de la capitale. Elle propose une histoire du care qui éclaire les enjeux profanes et spirituels de la relation de soin.

    Description: The Auerspergs [Turjaški] are among the rare noble families in the Slovenian territory with systematically preserved archives that date back to the Middle Ages. Most archival materials of the family, which was largely embedded in the framework of the Province of Carniola until the end of the 15th century, are presently kept in two private family archives: the Turjak Comital Fideicomiss Archives (Gräflich Auersperg'sches Fideikommisarchiv), first kept in the Turjak Castle until 1942 and now in the Carinthian Provincial Archives in Klagenfurt, and the Turjak Ducal Archives (Fürstlich Auersperg'sches Archiv), which were first moved to the Turjak Palace in Ljubljana and the Lower Austrian Lösensteinleiten Castle and finally ended up in the Viennese Haus-, Hof-, und Staatsarchiv.Turjaška knjiga listin 1 (1218–1400) [Turjak Book of Charters I (1218–1400)] contains 277 charters from the private archives of the Carniolan comital and ducal lines of the Auerspergs [Turjaški]. Published in their entirety, the charters are equipped with Slovenian regests and followed in the end by a comprehensive index of names and pictures of seals from the charters. With the publication of the Turjak charters, Slovenian historiography has gained an indispensable aid for the research of Slovenian medieval and modern history.
    Description: V Turjaški knjigi listin I (1218–1400) je objavljeno 277 listin iz zasebnih arhivov kranjske grofovske in knežje linije Turjaških (Auerspergov), ki so jih v sklopu grajskega arhiva do leta 1942 hranili na gradu Turjak, danes pa so shranjene izven slovenskega ozemlja. Listine so objavljene v celoti, opremljene so s slovenskimi regesti, ob koncu pa sledijo še obsežno imensko kazalo in slike pečatov z listin. Pripravljena izdaja turjaških listin sega do leta 1400 in je prvi del serije, v kateri bodo v končni fazi objavljene vse, tudi novoveške turjaške listine. Slovensko zgodovinopisje bo z objavo turjaških listin pridobilo nepogrešljiv pripomoček za raziskovanje slovenske srednjeveške in novoveške zgodovine.

    Description: Kalejdoskop goriške preteklosti, zgodbe o spominu in pozabi ('Kaleidoscope of the Past - Memories and Forgotten Stories from the Border') is a story about lives of the people living along the Slovenian-Italian border. In this area, the idea of the border is manifold, it is a state border, a territorial border, a temporal border between what had happened and the interpretations of past events today. The author discusses the divisive past and the seemingly uniting present permeating the area. She tells a story about the city Gorica, to which both Italians and Slovenians lay claims, a story about the struggle for redemption and freedom, about people who stroll along the same river, shop in the same shops and eat indulge similar cuisines. Still, they manage to retain a thin line of differentiation, a mentally construed abyss invariantly fortifying the distance. Since 2007, the border is visually gone yet it remains the criterion of spatial differentiation and identity formation, the founding stone of respective communities.
    Description: Kalejdoskop goriške preteklosti pripoveduje o odnosih in življenju ljudi ob meji. Meja je tu razumljena večplastno, kot državna meja, prostorska meja, časovna meja med tem, kar se je zgodilo, in današnjim pomenom teh dogodkov. Delo razpravlja o preteklosti, ki ta prostor deli, in sedanjosti, ki vsaj na videz ta prostor združuje. Pripoveduje o mestu Gorica, ki si ga lastijo pripadniki obeh nacionalnih skupnosti, o borbi za odrešitev in svobodo, o odnosu med ljudmi, ki se sprehajajo ob isti reki, kupujejo v istih trgovinah in jedo podobne jedi, pri tem pa ohranjajo tanko linijo medsebojne različnosti, miselno konstruiran prepad, ki med njimi zaradi drugačnosti utrjuje distanco. Meja, ki je iz pokrajine vizualno izginila decembra 2007, ostaja kriterij prostorskega ločevanja in oblikovanja identitete, ki upravičuje obstoj posamezne skupnosti.

    Du clos Saint-Lazare à la gare du Nord (2022)

    Description: La léproserie Saint-Lazare, signalée pour la première fois en 1122, était située à proximité de la ville de Paris, dans le faubourg Saint-Laurent. Elle devint en 1632 le berceau de la congrégation de la Mission que saint Vincent de Paul avait fondée quelques années auparavant. D’imposants bâtiments furent alors construits pour abriter une importante communauté. La petite église gothique accolée aux nouveaux bâtiments reçut la tombe du saint fondateur, devenant un haut lieu de pèlerinage que des tableaux de grands maîtres devaient dignifier. La maison et son clos attenant, qui comptait encore 52 hectares de terres en 1789, étaient devenus un domaine préservé dans un Paris toujours plus densément peuplé. Par la suite, cet espace subit des transformations marquantes au cours des xixe et xxe siècles. Accueillant d’importants projets de lotissement dès la Restauration (Nouveau Quartier Poissonnière), ce quartier situé près de la gare du Nord fut l’objet, sous le Second Empire, de réaménagements dont James de Rothschild est le principal acteur. Transformée tour à tour en prison puis en hôpital, la maison survécut aux aléas de l’histoire jusqu’à la démolition partielle des bâtiments en 1940. Seule la nouvelle chapelle et l’infirmerie bâties par Louis-Pierre Baltard témoignent encore aujourd’hui de l’existence du clos Saint-Lazare. Une infirmerie récemment restaurée par la Ville de Paris et qui abrite depuis 2015 la médiathèque Françoise- Sagan. C’est non pas tant l’histoire de la prison pour femmes qui vit passer Louise Michel et Mata Hari que ce livre tente d’éclaircir, que celle de la maison Saint-Lazare et de son clos et, à travers elle, l’économie de la maison mère d’une des principales congrégations de la France d’Ancien Régime et son adaptation successive à différents usages.

Le bocage a perdu le lien qu'il avait depuis son origine avec l'activité agricole : il reste une composante du paysage rural mais il n'est plus le cadre nécessaire du travail des agriculteurs. C'est la modification la plus importante qu'il ait connu depuis sa création. Le bocage n'est pas un milieu naturel : c'est un paysage construit ; il n'est pas là de toute éternité, mais il a été fabriqué et entretenu par des générations d'agriculteurs qui avaient besoin de haies pour pratiquer à la fois la culture et le pâturage. L'objet de l'ouvrage d'Annie Antoine est de porter un regard d'historien sur le paysage bocager de l'Ouest de la France : explorer les liens forts et durables tissés entre un paysage et ses habitants, lier la construction du bocage et ses transformations à l'évolution des sociétés rurales qui, de la fin du Moyen Âge aux mutations agricoles contemporaines, l'ont utilisé et transformé.

    Description: Les trois derniers siècles du Moyen Âge voient le déploiement, au sein du duché de Bretagne, de multiples « gens de savoir ». Personnages ayant bénéficié d’un enseignement supérieur ou d’une formation sur le terrain, ils déploient, parfois en les cumulant, leurs compétences dans divers domaines : l’Église, l’État ducal, l’administration judiciaire, le notariat, etc. Le présent ouvrage en est l’analyse, réalisée à partir d’un corpus de données prosopographiques constitué de 5 599 individus (Bretons ou étrangers venus en Bretagne), mis au jour grâce aux sources publiées, mais surtout au dépouillement de 5 238 cartons et registres d’archives. Les parcours universitaires et professionnels, les stratégies, les réussites et les échecs, les réseaux, les biens des gens de savoir ont ainsi été mis en exergue. Majoritairement étudiants à Paris, à Angers, et juristes de formation, ils reviennent de plus en plus dans le duché afin d’y faire carrière, en particulier avec le développement de l’État et des administrations ducale et judiciaire, au cours du xve siècle. Très polyvalents, il est fréquent qu’ils exercent deux ou trois fonctions différentes (évêque et chancelier, secrétaire et sénéchal, chanoine et médecin), auxquelles ils accèdent par toutes les techniques et ruses imaginables. Hommes de savoir, hommes de pouvoir, les plus efficaces d’entre eux veillent aussi à se garantir des revenus et un patrimoine mobilier et immobilier parfois très importants.

Les quatorze contributions réunies ici interrogent les modalités de cette relation en balayant plusieurs siècles d’histoire sur trois continents (Europe, Amérique, Afrique).     Description: The papers contained in this booklet were presented at the transnational conference “Employment/Working Conditions, Occupational Safety and Health of Posted Workers” in Ljubljana, Slovenia (15 February 2017). The conference brought together experts (researchers and practitioners) from several European countries to discuss the existing and new challenges related to OSH (occupational safety and health), labour, and working conditions of posted workers. The conference served as the launch event of the POOSH project, financed by the European Comission (Programme EaSI PROGRESS) and led by Dr. Kristina Toplak from the Slovenian Migration Institute at ZRC SAZU. The booklet is covering the topic of the OSH of posted workers from several angles. The first part is framed around contributions given by researchers working in the field of labor mobility, with the focus on the occupational safety and health of posted workers. The second part contains contributions from practitioners working in NGOs, trade unions or Ministries of Labour who presented their work as well as discussed national and transnational legislations related to the OSH of posted workers.

Drugi del vsebuje prispevke strokovnjakov, predvsem predstavnikov nevladnih organizacijah, sindikatov ali ministerstev, ki so v prispevkih predstavili svoje delo in razpravljali o nacionalnih in nadnacionalnih zakonodajah, ki se nanašajo na napotene delavce ter na področje varnosti in zdravja pri delu.

    Description: Selected Examples of Managing Cultural Heritage AreasCultural heritage can make an important contribution to development, especially if it is conscientiously managed and if one is aware of all of its development potentials. Attention was drawn to this in the CHERPLAN project with the volumes Upravljanje območij s kulturno dediščino (Managing Cultural Heritage Areas) and Managing Cultural Heritage Sites in Southeastern Europe~these two related books are now complemented by a third volume that discusses selected examples of managing cultural heritage areas. Because the project was intended to promote the development of areas in southeast Europe, we first present heritage from this area on the UNESCO World Heritage List, then various systems of protecting cultural heritage, followed by intergovernmental efforts to protect cultural heritage in southeast Europe. Regarding the content, we addressed the multifunctional role of cultural heritage, and due to specific circumstances in the past two decades we have also highlighted the damage caused to cultural heritage by military conflicts. The following individual examples of cultural heritage management are discussed: Kotor, Gamzigrad, the Stari Grad Plain, Ohrid, the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, Lake Neusiedl, and the Semmering Railway, and outside the southeast Europe program area also Bilbao and the Rhaetian Railway.
    Description: Kulturna dediščina lahko pomembno prispeva k razvoju območij, še zlasti, če z njo premišljeno upravljamo in se zavedamo vseh njenih razvojnih potencialov. Na to smo v projektu CHERPLAN opozorili z monografijama Upravljanje območij s kulturno dediščino ter Managing Cultural Heritage Sites in Southeastern Europe, vsebinsko povezane knjige pa zaključuje knjiga izbranih primerov. Ker je bil projekt namenjen spodbujanju razvoja območij v jugovzhodni Evropi, sprva predstavljamo dediščino, ki je s tega območja uvrščena na Unescov Seznam svetovne dediščine, predstavljamo različne sisteme varovanja kulturne dediščine ter predstavimo medvladna prizadevanja za varstvo kulturne dediščine v jugovzhodni Evropi. Z vsebinskega vidika smo obravnavali multifunkcijsko vlogo kulturne dediščine, zaradi specifičnih okoliščin v preteklih dveh desetletjih pa osvetljujemo tudi škodo, ki so jo kulturni dediščini povzročili vojni spopadi. Posamično obravnavamo naslednje primere upravljanja kulturne dediščine: Kotor, Gamzigrad, Starograško polje, Ohrid, most Mehmedpaša Sokolovića, Nežidrsko jezero, Semmerinško železnico, izven programskega območja Jugovzhodna Evropa pa še Bilbao in Retijsko železnico.

    Description: Mai 1967, au Nigeria, la République du Biafra déclare son indépendance. Bientôt, la guerre civile et la famine ravagent la région et font progressivement irruption dans les médias européens et américains. Les photographies du conflit soulèvent une émotion considérable en Occident L’enclave sécessionniste et les zones reprises par l’armée nigériane deviennent alors le théâtre d’importantes opérations de secours, élaborées et financées par de multiples organisations et gouvernements. S’inscrivant dans une historiographie de l’humanitaire en plein renouvellement, ce livre raconte l’histoire de la guerre, de sa métamorphose en une crise internationale et des réponses qui ont été apportées. Basé sur un important corpus de sources provenant de fonds d’archives français, britanniques, suisses, nigérians et américains, il offre une plongée dans le monde de l’humanitaire à la fin des années 1960. Il montre les reconfigurations qui s’y opèrent à l’heure postcoloniale en proposant des échelles d’observation complémentaires - internationale, nationale et locale. L’ouvrage revisite par ailleurs quelques-unes des controverses qui se sont développées autour du conflit à propos de l’instrumentalisation de l’aide, de ses liens avec le politique, de la réception des opérations de secours sur le terrain ou encore de la naissance du sans-frontiérisme et du témoignage. Il revient ainsi sur la place occupée par la crise du Biafra dans l’histoire de l’aide humanitaire.

    Description: The creation of the Illyrian Provinces is considered to be one of the most important events in Slovenian history, not only by demonstrating that the Habsburg rule was not eternal and untouchable, but also by bringing about global changes in ideational, economic and social areas. The Illyrian Provinces were an important ideational and political factor in the Slovenian social and political development. Given the altered political situation in Europe and especially in view of the establishment of the independent Slovenian state, the renewed discussion on the Illyrian Provinces bears multiple new implications. On the one hand, it spreads knowledge about international developments on Slovenian soil, while on the other, scientifically more pertinent, it presents not only an analysis of hitherto research but also brings into Slovenian historiography new findings based on new materials and new methodological approaches.
    Description: Nastanek Ilirskih provinc velja za enega pomembnih dogodkov v slovenski zgodovini, ki ni samo dokazal, da je oblast Habsburžanov večna in nedotakljiva, ampak je prinesel tudi globalne spremembe na idejnem, gospodarskem in socialnem področju. Ilirske province so bile pomembno idejno in politično gibalo slovenskega družbenopolitičnega razvoja. Glede na spremenjene politične razmere v Evropi, zlasti pa spričo nastanka samostojne slovenske države, ima prenovljena obravnava Ilirskih provinc številne nove implikacije. Na eni strani širi vedenje o mednarodnih dogodkih na slovenskih tleh, na drugi in strokovno pomembnejši pa predstavlja analizo dosedanjih raziskav in vnos novih spoznanj, temelječih na novem gradivu in novih metodoloških pristopih, v slovenski zgodovinopisni prostor.

    Description: Loin d’être seulement l’homme de la loi sur le divorce, Alfred Naquet est l’une des figures majeures des débuts de la Troisième République. Son parcours et celui de ses amis politiques sont envisagés dans cet ouvrage comme servant de buttes témoins à une étude des pratiques et des discours autour des phénomènes de patronage, de corruption et de scandale à la fin du xixe siècle. L’auteur montre comment des réseaux autour d’Alfred Naquet participent à un clientélisme républicain et quelles sont les contradictions de ce parlementaire face à ces pratiques, ainsi que ses velléités de réformes constitutionnelles. Celles-ci s’inscrivant dans la quête d’une « vraie république » de certains radicaux au tournant des années 1880, oblitérée dans la mémoire républicaine du fait de l’engagement de certains d’entre eux dans le boulangisme. Enfin l’auteur montre comment Alfred Naquet passe durant sa vie politique d’acteur critique de la corruption électorale sous l’Ordre moral à la place d’accusé de corruption durant le scandale de Panama, scandale qui révèle des conflits normatifs autour de la question de la corruption.

    Description: À partir de l’exemple du sud aquitain, véritable condensé des sensibilités protestantes de l’Europe du xixe siècle, une analyse multi-scalaire permet d’appréhender les processus de réintégration et d’affirmation du protestantisme qui, au terme d’un siècle de persécutions et de clandestinité, devient une confession reconnue. De la promulgation des Articles organiques du 18 germinal an X à la Séparation des Églises et de l’État, l’étude du pluralisme protestant permet de définir de nouveaux espaces ainsi que de nouvelles et multiples formes de structuration institutionnelle. L’existence de lignes de partage externes, visibles au travers des modalités de coexistence, et internes, appréhendables par les points de tension inhérents à cette pluralité, révèle, quant à elle, les différents traits d’une identité protestante qui ne se conçoit que dans la diversité. Au-delà de ses divergences, cette minorité active fait preuve d’une vision collective et spatiale : par la création d’un territoire concurrent de l’Église catholique, par sa reconstruction institutionnelle, par ses réseaux, par ses engagements politiques, par la relecture de son histoire, elle se forge une identité originale et prétend jouer un rôle moteur dans la société de son temps.

Les mobilités sociales n’ont jamais été véritablement un objet historiographique, celles d’Ancien Régime en particulier, volontiers tenues pour inexistantes. Il est vrai que la société dite d’ordres a longtemps servi de contre-modèle, pour ne pas dire de repoussoir, consacrant, dans les sociétés démocratiques, des dynamiques parfois plus supposées que réelles. « La société d’ordres d’Ancien Régime ne connaît guère les mobilités sociales », « le capitalisme dynastique français souffre de la rigidité de ses structures », « le marchand du xviiie siècle n’aspire qu’à quitter son état par l’anoblissement de sa lignée », voilà quelques lieux communs mis à mal par le présent livre. L’approche retenue en fait la particularité : délaissant les catégories traditionnelles posées comme a priori, elle offre une matrice fluide du mode de production empirique des mobilités et des identités bourgeoises, par une analyse méticuleuse de ses univers matériels, de ses réseaux de propriétés et de sociabilités- De la Malmaison à la place Vendôme, du négoce normand à la création de la Banque de France, de la traite négrière à l’argent d’Espagne, le livre épouse la formidable ascension de la dynastie Le Couteulx sur sept générations. Il propose, en définitive, un tableau totalement inédit des mobilités sociales bourgeoises, entre 1600 et 1824.

    Description: Au cours des années 1960, les pays occidentaux s’engagèrent, avec des rythmes et des conceptions variés, dans un processus politique, médical et administratif visant à sortir les malades des hôpitaux psychiatriques. En opposition au modèle asilaire développé au xixe siècle, cette désinstitutionnalisation valorisait une prise en charge de la maladie mentale fondée sur les ressources communautaires et les services ambulatoires. Mais est-ce pour autant la fin de l’asile ? En retraçant l’histoire des modalités de sortie de l’asile dans le monde francophone du xixe siècle, cet ouvrage constate la nature mythique de la désinstitutionnalisation. Si on a bien fermé quelques asiles et libéré des malades mentaux pour les réintégrer dans la communauté, on était loin d’atteindre les ambitions des réformateurs de l’après-guerre. En Europe comme en Amérique du Nord, la déshospitalisation s’est en effet déployée tardivement par rapport aux proclamations théoriques et aux injonctions légales, à des rythmes différents selon les régions et de manière souvent conflictuelle. C’est sur les enjeux et les conséquences de ce phénomène historique majeur pour nos sociétés que revient cet ouvrage.

    Description: The text-critical edition Turjaška knjiga listin II [Turjak Book of Charters II], containing 436 published documents from the 15th century, completes the medieval corpus of charters from the private archives of the Carniolan comital and ducal lines of the Auerspergs. Published in their entirety, the charters are equipped with Slovenian regests and followed in the end by a comprehensive index of names and pictures of seals from the charters.The Auerspergs [Turjaški] are among the rare noble families in the Slovenian territory with systematically preserved archives that date back to the Middle Ages. Most archival materials of the family, which was largely embedded in the framework of the Province of Carniola until the end of the 15th century, are presently kept in two private family archives: the Turjak Comital Fideicomiss Archives (Gräflich Auersperg'sches Fideikommisarchiv), first kept in the Turjak Castle until 1942 and now in the Carinthian Provincial Archives in Klagenfurt, and the Turjak Ducal Archives (Fürstlich Auersperg'sches Archiv), which were first moved to the Turjak Palace in Ljubljana and the Lower Austrian Lösensteinleiten Castle and finally ended up in the Viennese Haus-, Hof-, und Staatsarchiv.
    Description: Tekstno-kritična edicija s 436 objavljenimi dokumenti iz 15. stoletja zaključuje srednjeveški korpus listin iz zasebnih arhivov kranjske grofovske in knežje linije Turjaških (Auerspergov), ki so jih v sklopu grajskega arhiva do leta 1942 hranili na gradu Turjak, danes pa so shranjene izven slovenskega ozemlja. Listine so objavljene v celoti, opremljene so s slovenskimi regesti, ob koncu pa sledijo še obsežno imensko kazalo in slike pečatov z listin.

Avtorji obravnavajo ljubezen do domovin/e pri izseljencih, priseljencih, pripadnikih etničnih in spolnih manjšin, otrocih iz mešanih zakonov, anarhistih ter družbenih kritikih in aktivistih. Tako avtorji prispevkov kot njihovi akterji se zavzemajo za razumevanje in prakticiranje kritičnega domoljubja, za držo, ki jo najbolje povzemajo besede »misli s svojo glavo«.

    Description: In May 2006 Fiji held its tenth general election since independence in 1970. In a country with an unenviable history of electoral trauma, the mood was apprehensive if not tense - not least because of controversial public statements against the incumbent Qarase government being made by the commander of Fiji's military forces. Despite a record number of parties and candidates, the winners were the two big parties - the heavily church-backed SDL, the party of choice of the majority of indigenous Fijians; and the Fiji Labour Party, the party preferred by most Indo-Fijians.     Description: E.A. Martel (1859-1938) is rightly regarded as one of the most important people in the history of cave study. Writing in French, as he did, his work was little known in those parts of central Europe that were in the Austrian empire. Thus much of what he wrote about the Classical Karst was not readily accessible to those now living in that area. It is for that reason that this English translation of his 1894 publication has been made. Martel had been in Slovenia from 14 September 1893 to mid October. He was shown the principal caves and karst features of the region by Wilhelm Putick who had been exploring these places from 1886 onwards. This assistance had been authorised by Count Falkenhayn, the Minister of Agriculture in Wien. Such was the importance with which Martel was regarded internationally.

    Description: En 1669 est créée la charge de secrétaire d’État de la Marine. Son premier titulaire, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, se met à construire une administration centrale. Le nouveau département croît rapidement. À mesure que l’effectif des commis affectés à la gestion des affaires de Marine augmente, des subdivisions, les « bureaux », sont mises en place. Ces derniers sont eux-mêmes divisés en « détails », qui forment le dernier maillon de la chaîne administrative. Le nombre des bureaux s’adapte à l’évolution des besoins. On en ouvre, d’autres sont supprimés ou fusionnent pour donner naissance à de nouvelles entités. Cette subdivision en bureaux persiste jusqu’en 1786, année où Castries réorganise les branches existantes en quatre grandes directions. Les contributions réunies dans ce volume s’intéressent à cette évolution de l’administration centrale de la Marine de 1669 à la Révolution. Elles se penchent également sur les tâches quotidiennes des hommes qui y travaillent, sur leur environnement matériel, ainsi que sur leur recrutement et leurs carrières.

While some humanistic disciplines in Slovenia boast a long tradition of scholarly editions, reaching back to the first half of the 19th century, others have begun to consolidate their editorial standards fairly recently.

    Description: In 1975, M.R. Kurkrit Pramoj met Mao Zedong, marking the eventual establishment of diplomatic relations and a discursive rupture with the previous narrative of Communist powers as an existential threat. This book critically interrogates the birth of bamboo (bending with the wind) diplomacy and the politics of Thai détente with Russia and China in the long 1970s (1968–80). By 1968, Thailand was encountering discursive anxiety amid the prospect of American retrenchment from the Indo-Pacific region. As such, Thailand developed a new discourse of détente to make sense of the rapidly changing world politics and replace the hegemonic discourse of anticommunism. By doing so, it created a political struggle between the old and new discourses. Jittipat Poonkham also argues that bamboo diplomacy – previously seen as a classic and continual 'tradition' of Thai-style diplomacy – had its origins in Thai détente and has become the metanarrative of Thai diplomacy since then. Based on a genealogical approach and multi‑archival research, this book examines three key episodes of Thai détente: Thanat Khoman (1968–71), M.R. Kukrit Pramoj (1975–76), and General Kriangsak Chomanan (1977–80). This transformation was represented in numerous diplomatic/discursive practices, such as ping‑pong diplomacy, petro‑diplomacy, trade and cultural diplomacy, and normal visits.

    Description: Du milieu des années 1930 à la fin des années 1940, dans tous les pays européens du pourtour méditerranéen, des femmes et des hommes ont combattu, selon des temporalités et des modalités différentes, dans des mouvements de résistance antifasciste, que ce soit contre le régime en place ou contre une armée d’occupation, au premier chef l’armée allemande. Dès le temps de la lutte et à la sortie de cette phase de longues et intenses convulsions, la question de la place et du rôle des femmes a été soulevée, souvent par les acteurs et les actrices eux-mêmes. Elle a plus encore retenu l’attention de la recherche scientifique à dater des années 1970, quand les revendications féministes ont tait irruption dans le monde intellectuel et sur l’avant-scène publique. En revanche, les questions liées à la catégorie de genre n’ont été prises en compte que tout récemment et de façon inégale en fonction de l’aire géographique. Ce champ d’investigation relève davantage encore actuellement d’un chantier en pleine ébullition que d’un jardin à la française. C’est sur ce chantier que les artisan·e·s de cet ouvrage ont réfléchi ensemble dans une perspective transnationale qui en modifie les caractéristiques et la perception. Venu·e·s d’Australie, d’Espagne, des États-Unis, d’Italie, de France, de Grèce, de l’ex-Yougoslavie, leurs contributions éclairent différemment une période qui défie volontiers l’analyse.

    Description: This scientific monograph ('Wars in the Territory of Slovenia. Testimonies, Memories, and Images') examines the life of the civilian population in Slovenia in times of war. Although most of its authors are not historians they frequently encounter testimonies of suffering, wartime events, and post-war developments during their research of the dwelling culture, folk creativity, urban life, the family, and the village community. In the course of their work they have discovered a number of records, memoirs, diaries, photographs, letters as well as lesser-known stories about the life of the civilian population in Slovenia, particularly from the interwar period. The first four papers examine the life during the First World War~different destinies of Slovene families~the devastation of Vipavska Dolina~and famine, deprivation, and hardship on the front, all of which are also reflected in Slovene military folk songs. The following two articles deal with the fate of Jewish families in Prekmurje and with the civilian life in Goričko during the Second World War. The last contribution looks at Slovenes in the 16th and the 17th century during military conflicts in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Gorizia and its vicinity.
    Description: Znanstvena monografija obravnava življenje civilistov v času vojn na slovenskem ozemlju. Čeprav avtorji večinoma niso zgodovinarji, se z izpovedmi o trpljenju, pomanjkanju, smrti, dojemanju vojnega in povojnega dogajanja srečujejo ob raziskavah bivalne kulture, ljudske ustvarjalnosti, prehrane, mestnega življenja, družinske in vaške skupnost ter gospodarske zgodovine. Pri tem so se jim razkrili številni zapisi, spomini, dnevniki, fotografije in pisma ter manj znane podobe življenja večinskega prebivalstva, predvsem med prvo in drugo svetovno vojno: njihove male in velike bitke, ki do sedaj v zgodovinskih delih o vojnah na Slovenskem še niso podrobno osvetljene. Prve štiri razprave opisujejo življenje med prvo svetovno vojno, različne usode slovenskih družin, razdejanje v Vipavski dolini, lakoto in pomanjkanje ter težke razmere na frontah, ki so se odražale tudi v slovenskih ljudskih vojaških pesmih. Sledita prispevka o usodi judovskih družin v Prekmurju in življenju civilnega prebivalstva na Goričkem med drugo svetovno vojno. Knjigo sklene obravnava Slovencev med vojaškimi spopadi v Furlaniji in na Goriškem v 16. in 17. stoletju.

    Description: Otroštvo v slovenskem izseljenstvu sodi med manj raziskane izseljenske teme, knjiga pa ga poskuša osvetliti z zornih kotov različnih znanstvenih disciplin. Izhajajoč iz mnogovrstnosti zgodovinskih in kulturoloških definicij otrok ter kategorij otrok v izseljenstvu, predstavljenih v prvem, uvodnem delu knjige, smo v drugem delu knjige najprej pogledali na otroštvo v izseljenstvu, kot se odraža v slovenski izseljenski književnosti in medmrežnih vsebinah. Tretji del knjige se osredotoča na manj raziskane vidike otroštva v nekaterih posebnih izseljenskih situacijah. Avtorice v svojih poglavjih namreč raziskujejo intimno doživljajske migrantske izkušnje otrok aleksandrink, izgnanih otrok in otrok diplomatov. Metodološko stičišče različnih disciplinarnih in avtorskih pristopov raziskave je predvsem v poskusu subjektivizacije predmeta obravnave, oprtem tudi na čim različnejša osebna pričevanja.

    Description: The years 1921–57 marked a period of immense upheaval for Australia as the nation navigated economic crises, the threat of aggressive Japanese expansion and shifting power distributions with the world transitioning from British leadership to that of the US. This book offers a reassessment of Australia's foreign policy origins and maturation during these tumultuous years. Successive Australian governments carefully observed these global and regional forces. The policy that developed in response was an integrated one—that is, one that sought to balance Australia's particular geopolitical circumstances with great power relationships and, in assessing the value of these relationships, ensure that the nation’s trade, security and diplomatic interests were served. Amid the economic and strategic uncertainty of the interwar years, the Australian government acknowledged the shifting power distributions in the global and Asia-Pacific orders and that neither the policies of Britain nor the US completely served the national interest. The nation, accordingly, sought to intervene within the policies of the great powers to ensure its particular interests were secured. This geopolitically informed, interventionist approach, which had its genesis in the 1930s, is traced throughout the 1940s and 1950s, highlighting Australia’s gradual and uneven transition from the British world order to that of the US and the frank assessments made about which relationship best served Australia’s interests. The Genesis of a Policy identifies a comprehensive and pragmatic approach—albeit not always effectively executed—in Australian foreign policy tradition that has not been previously examined.

    Description: The work is a critical edition of the preserved fragments of five notary codices from Piran (1289–1305) with notes made by the notary Dominicus Petenarius. Notaries entered into notary codices the essential features of business transactions in stenographic form, specific writing and simple Latin. This is a valuable type of sources for the study of medieval and later history. The entries portray the economic and social life of cities and their surroundings, their administration, judicial system, everyday life, population development, urban image, as well as culture and arts, all of which serve the purposes of research conducted by experts in various fields. The edition is equipped with a standard critical apparatus and an accompanying study which is also translated into English. The main part of the text encompasses the transliteration of the manuscript comprising 518 agreements with different contents. Each is marked with a successive number, defined with regard to its content and dated. The specific features of the original and inconsistencies in writing are described in notes. The work comes with an index of names, a subject index and a list of entries in which each entry is marked with the original annotation of the page in the original, date, type of contents, short summary of the contents and the page in the publication.

Fragmenti petih notarskih sešitkov, ki so predmet znanstvenokritične objave, vsebujejo kratke povzetke poslovnih dogovorov Pirančanov v poldrugem desetletju pred sedmimi stoletji. Zapisi so objektivni in zanesljivi, razkrivajo pa nekdanjo poslovno prakso od trgovskih družb, prek trgovanja na kredit, posojanja denarja, udinjanja pri delodajalcu, prodaje ali oddaje nepremičnin v zakup ipd.

    Description: The purpose of the monograph Crossroads of Orthography which aims, as did its predecessor Junctures of Orthography (2012), to present arguments for additions and changes to normative rules – is to encourage normative and orthographic activities in Slovenian linguistic society. In the 20th century, these activities were intensified only after publication of normative guides called “pravopis” and during polemical discussions that accompanied the results. With both monographs, we want to encourage public debate before the publication of the new normative guide and also to find answers to the language and normative difficulties, which are not problematic only in terms of linguistics and orthography, but also within the wider social environment. In six thematic sections of the monograph, 26 authors of 22 articles deal with specific normative issues (capitalization and punctuation) as well as with other topics on different levels of grammatical description – phonology, morphology and word formation. The problems of orthography in other, often non-linguistic fields are discussed. In the last two parts of the monograph, the problems of lexicographic approaches to orthography and its relation to language culture are considered.

S prispevki 27 avtoric in avtorjev z različnih ustanov in iz različnih okolij želi delo preseči idejna in metodološka nasprotja, s katerimi je nasičena slovenska jezikoslovna publicistika.     Description: Since 1994, karstologists have participated uninterruptedly in the planning and construction of expressways on Slovenia’s karst. The choice of expressway and railway routes must above all respect the integrity of the karst landscape and follow recommendations on avoiding major karst surface features and already known caves. Special attention is devoted to the impact of the construction and use of expressways on karst waters. The results of constant research of karst features discovered in the course of the construction of expressways have enriched our knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage and deepened our karstological knowledge. They also represent starting points for planning life on karst surfaces and the protection of karst. The book is intended for karstologists, experts from the field of earth sciences, engineering geologists, planners of traffic routes, students, nature protectionists, planners in administrative units, managers of karst water resources, waterworks, tourist caves, etc.
    Description: Krasoslovci že od leta 1994 neprekinjeno sodelujemo pri načrtovanju in izgradnji avtocest na krasu.
