    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017.     Description: I quaderni di laboratorio di Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794) sono fonti preziose per chi studia la cosiddetta “nuova chimica” del Settecento. Tutt’ora inediti, questi documenti sono qui riletti alla luce di un dettaglio: la presenza, tra una pagina e l’altra, della grafia di Marie-Anne Paulze-Lavoisier (1758-1836), moglie e collaboratrice del celebre chimico francese. È in effetti lei, ben più di altri assistenti, a compilare questo grande “archivio dell’esperimento”, per poi conservarlo (senza mai smettere di maneggiarlo) nei quattro decenni che seguirono la morte del marito nel 1794. Un lavoro che lei stessa assimilava con orgoglio a quello di un «segretario». Questo libro ricuce insieme queste storie, aprendo nuove prospettive tra storia materiale della scienza, storia sociale e storia delle donne e di genere.

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another.     Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology.     Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Si tratta di una tipologia non rilevata, a dispetto di un fenomeno che si presenta fin dalle origini di dimensioni rimarchevoli. Questo volume si prefigge di porre l’accento non tanto sulla fotografia come fonte per la storia religiosa, quanto sul suo utilizzo nei processi di promozione del culto dei santi e nella prassi devozionale: l’introduzione della macchina fotografica nella sfera del sacro e la sua evoluzione in una pratica di “massa” determinano l’inserimento dell’immaginario agiografico nell’universo mediatico in un processo di contaminazione tra sacro e profano. Vengono affrontate tematiche relative all’evoluzione dei sistemi costruttivi e dei costi di produzione di galee, galeazze e altre imbarcazioni a remi; da fine Seicento anche di vascelli, fregate e altri bastimenti a vela, in connessione con la trasformazione delle tecniche della navigazione e di quelle della guerra sul mare. Sono prese in considerazione le complesse questioni attinenti alla pressione esercitata sui boschi, soprattutto quelli di rovere, che forniscono la materia prima essenziale; i particolari regimi giuridici cui vengono sottoposti, sottraendoli alla disponibilità delle comunità locali; gli strumenti, a volte fortemente innovativi, usati a fini di conoscenza e di controllo, quali la compilazione di catastici e mappe; il ruolo esercitato dagli organi politici e tecnici dell’Arsenale nell’opera di governo e gestione; i valori e i limiti della riforma forestale che viene faticosamente approvata negli ultimi anni di vita della Repubblica.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Description: In the period from the middle of the 19th century until the outbreak of the First World War, a modern Norwegian literature developed in parallel with a modern Norwegian media society. New forms of transport and communication, sound and imaging techniques, changed the conditions for what man could see, hear, do, know and imagine. How was Norwegian literature affected by these media technological changes? This book examines how the relationship between man and his media was expressed in Norwegian literature written in the period from 1850 to the beginning of the 20th century. The book shows how the literary innovations of the late 19th century can be understood as responses to the same period's media development, and thus advocates that a media aesthetic perspective can actualize and renew our understanding of this central period in Norwegian literary history.

Nye former for transport og kommunikasjon, lyd- og avbildningsteknikker, endret betingelsene for hva mennesket kunne se, høre, gjøre, vite og forestille seg. Hvordan ble norsk litteratur påvirket av disse medieteknologiske endringene? "Det mediale gjennombruddet" undersøker hvordan forholdet mellom mennesket og dets medier kom til uttrykk i norsk litteratur skrevet i perioden fra 1850 til begynnelsen av 1900-tallet. Boken viser hvordan det sene 1800-tallets litterære fornyelser kan forstås som responser på den samme periodens medieutvikling, og tar slik til orde for at et medieestetisk perspektiv kan aktualisere og fornye vår forståelse av denne sentrale perioden i norsk litteraturhistorie.

    Description: The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.
