    Description: This volume concludes the edition of Heinrich von Mügeln's smaller poems. This is the first complete edition of the hymns of one of the most important poets of the 14th century. The volume also contains two of Mügeln's Latin texts: 'Artes liberales' and 'Libri tocius biblie', two summaries on the liberal arts and the books of the Old Testament. The centerpiece of the volume is 'Der meide kranz', an allegorical poem about the struggle between the liberal arts and between the virtues and nature, written in honor of Emperor Charles IV.     Description: Despite the opposition of two parties - first the Whigs and the Tories, then the Liberals and the Conservatives - 19th century Britain was characterized by a political culture of moderation. The bearers of this political culture were a group of politicians who always sought the middle way between the extremes and were known as Liberal Tories or Liberal Conservatives. This book fills a research gap by examining the development of this British Liberal Conservatism in the period from 1750 to 1850, first looking at Edmund Burke's political philosophy and then showing how the Liberal Tories and Liberal Conservatives who followed him drew on his thinking. It shows how politicians such as George Canning and Sir Robert Peel, based on Burke and the political philosophy of the "Old Whigs", pursued a centrist policy that was always oriented towards the virtues of moderation and prudence. The book thus sheds light on the conservative variant of liberalism that characterized Great Britain throughout the 19th century.

    Description: The life and miracles of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia are the subject of the 'Life of Elisabeth' by the Eisenach council scribe Johannes Rothe (ca. 1360-1434). Rothe, who had already written spiritual works and three extensive chronicles ('Eisenacher Stadtchronik', 'Thüringische Landeschronik' and 'Weltchronik'), offers a comprehensive rendition of the chronicle and legendary tradition in the rhyming verse legend of over 4,000 verses, whereby, in addition to the chronicles, he particularly exploits the Latin Vita of Dietrich von Apolda. In the formal connection to the legends of the saints and the orientation towards chronicles in terms of content, Rothe adopts a cross-genre standpoint. Elisabeth's life is integrated into the genealogy of the landgrave's dynasty and thus becomes part of the landgrave's memorial culture. In the history of the text's reception, with numerous copies up to the 18th century, there is evidence of corresponding emphases: the work was used partly as a devotional book and partly as part of the dynastic memoria of the Thuringian dynasty.

Si ces dernières semblent reléguées aux temps lointains, les « sectes », quant à elles, seraient contemporaines. Or une telle grille de lecture est erronée. Cette étude, privilégiant le cas français mais s’appuyant aussi sur d’autres espaces et d’autres traditions religieuses que le catholicisme, entend proposer un parcours depuis les premiers siècles de notre ère jusqu’à nos jours. On constatera ainsi l’ambiguïté des notions de « secte » et d’« hérésie », ainsi que l’évolution de l’emploi de ces termes. Il s’agit aussi, en miroir, de revenir de manière inédite sur ce qu’est l’orthodoxie en religion.     Description: Professeur d’histoire contemporaine à l’Université Lumière Lyon 2, Gilbert Carrier, par ailleurs intervenant à l’Université du Vin de Suze-la-Rousse et chroniqueur dans la Revue des Œnologues, est un spécialiste affirmé de l’histoire de la vigne et du vin. Son dernier ouvrage. Histoire sociale et culturelle du vin (Bordas, 1995), fait désormais autorité comme la troisième synthèse historique en la matière, après celles de Roger Dion (1959) et de Marcel Lachiver (1988). Comme il est d’usage universitaire, plusieurs de ses collègues lyonnais, français et étrangers lui ont offert ce volume de Mélanges. Trente-trois communications ont été sollicitées, rassemblées et ordonnées par Jean-Luc Mayaud, son successeur en Histoire rurale à l’Université Lumière Lyon 2. Les trois-quarts portent sur la vigne, les vignerons et les vins. Du Moyen-Âge à nos jours, en France, en Allemagne, en Italie et en Grèce, des regards croisés de géographes, de philosophes et surtout d’historiens proposent au lecteur le très large panorama viti-vinicole ouvert à Clio, sœur et nourrice de Dionysos.

    Description: Cet ouvrage collectif présente les résultats d’une enquête internationale menée auprès d’environ 7 000 élèves âgés de 11 à 19 ans, à qui il a été demandé de raconter l’histoire nationale. Des élèves français, suisses, catalans, allemands ont répondu à un questionnaire et raconté librement « leur » histoire nationale. Contre les idées reçues d’un manque de connaissances historiques et de l’absence de tout récit commun, l’enquête dévoile des formes de narration, des organisateurs du récit et des contenus partagés, une véritable trame commune. L’analyse de ces formes et contenus précise leurs points forts, mais aussi les absences ou les spécificités nationales, et montre comment les savoirs scolaires coexistent avec d’autres sources de connaissances. Sont étudiées en particulier les places respectives et les fonctions du politique, de la religion, de la guerre, dans ces récits qui témoignent d’un imaginaire national. Un effet « territorial » est enfin mis en valeur, à la fois moins important que prévu en France et significatif à l’échelle des pays. Sensibles au contexte, ces récits sont la manifestation juvénile d’une conscience historique en formation, qui s’exprime selon des formes inédites.

Diese Fragen stehen im Zentrum der Beiträge, welche die Malpraxis, die Theoriebildung zur Farbe, die neuen graphischen Reproduktionstechniken, die steigende Sehkompetenz, die Materialität von Farbe, die Verfeinerung der Darstellungsdetails und die Rolle optischer Instrumente untersuchen. Die Irritation im 18. Jahrhundert entstand aus der nicht eindeutigen Trennung in Licht- und Pigmentfarben. Für die Künstler hatte die alte Farbtrias - Blau, Rot, Gelb - weiterhin Bestand.     Description: C'est dans un large cadre géographique que s'inscrit le travail d'Yves Lequin : Lyon et sa mouvance directe mais aussi le bassin de la Loire, le Dauphiné, la Savoie, le Bugey, le Vivarais, les montagnes du Roannais et du Beaujolais ; il évite ainsi à la fois l'étroitesse de la monographie et les faux-semblants du cadre national confondu avec les appareils parisiens. Livre d'histoire sociale de la classe ouvrière, il éclaire la vie et l'action de ses organisations par les modalités de l'industrialisation, par les évolutions de la vie matérielle et culturelle, par la sociologie des groupes où elles s'insèrent. L'image qui en sort rompt avec l'idée habituelle d'une évolution linéaire. Yves Lequin oppose fortement deux périodes séparées, grossièrement par la grande dépression des années 1880-1890 qui coïncide avec une profonde mutation de toute l'économie régionale. Jusque-là, l'industrialisation n'a pas été rupture mais développement parti de loin ; aussi les groupes ouvriers renforcent-ils leur cohésion en augmentant leur nombre, même si la médiocrité des conditions de travail et de vie correspond bien aux descriptions du temps ; autour du métier naissent des mouvements collectifs et une prise de conscience très précoces d'où sortent des organisations professionnelles d'une puissance insoupçonnée et qui atteignent leur apogée à la veille des années 1880. C'est après 1890, la reconversion totale de l'industrie régionale qui brise leur base militante ; la Belle Époque est un temps d'inquiétudes et d'incertitudes malgré l'amélioration du niveau de vie ; avec la disparition du « métier » liée à une déqualification générale du travail, disparaît ou s'affaiblit l'identité collective. C'est en fait une nouvelle classe ouvrière qui est en train de naître, encore incertaine d'elle-même et souvent prisonnière de conduites revendicatives ou politiques héritées du XIXe siècle, inadaptées au siècle qui naît.

Mohammed ben Abdelkrim el Khattabi alias Abdelkrim schaffte es, die zerstrittenen Rifkabylen zu vereinen und aus der Widerstandsbewegung gegen die spanischen Invasoren die 1923 proklamierte "Rif-Republik" erwachsen zu lassen. Dirk Sasse geht den deutschen, britischen und französischen Helfern Abdelkrims nach – Ärzten, Technikern usw. –, die zu einer schleichenden Verlängerung des Krieges beitrugen, aber auch bei der vorgesehenen Modernisierung des Landes mithelfen sollten. Sein Buch ist ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Dekolonisation und zur Geschichte der Vernetzung zwischen der außereuropäischen Bevölkerung und antikolonial eingestellten Sympathisanten in Europa.

    Description: Les testaments sont une source majeure pour les historiens du Moyen Âge. En Forez et en Lyonnais, certains revêtent une forme particulière : ce sont des testaments oraux, mis par écrit après la mort du testateur, voire des années après. À partir du xive siècle, l'officialité de Lyon et le comte de Forez imposèrent une procédure régularisée et l'enregistrement des textes. Parmi les notaires, une élite de prêtres notaires joua un rôle pionnier dans la diffusion de cette réforme dans les paroisses de montagne. Les dépositions des témoins, souvent de très humbles gens, furent faites en langue vernaculaire. La majorité des 10 000 testaments enregistrés proviennent de villages. La nature du patrimoine, les activités, l'organisation de l'habitat, la structure des familles, sont bien différentes chez les éleveurs de bovins des Monts du Forez de ce qu'elles sont dans les paroisses viticoles bordant la Saône. Mais la pratique successorale cherche d'abord à préserver le patrimoine du morcellement. On constate que les rites funéraires demeurent très modestes. Quant au clergé, il est souvent peu nombreux, tandis qu'il est pléthorique et bien organisé à Lyon et Montbrison. Ce livre - accompagné de documents inédits, édites et traduits - est une synthèse dressée après trente années de recherche. Il décrit la pratique testamentaire. Pratique mouvante quand on sait que les Foréziens pratiquèrent du xiiie au xve siècle trois procédures testamentaires différentes. Il montre la richesse documentaire que révèle le testament dans les domaines les plus variés : répartition du peuplement, profession des testateurs, pourcentage des femmes parmi ceux qui testent et ceux qui témoignent, relations sociales, vie quotidienne, etc. Sont fournis enfin un index des noms de lieux, un index des matières et un index analytique.

    Description: L'intérêt accordé au corps depuis une vingtaine d'années est caractéristique de l'évolution de notre société. Mais l'épistémologie rationaliste qui est encore la nôtre, fondée sur une séparation entre l'intelligibilité et la sensibilité, ne permet pas vraiment de réintégrer le corps dans la culture. Le religieux est un domaine bien constitué. Mais sa réactivation et sa recomposition dans les sociétés de cette fin du xxe siècle exigent que nous sachions affiner nos instruments d'investigation, qui ne peuvent plus se limiter aux seules oppositions du savant et du populaire, du légitime et de l'illégitime. Le rapprochement de ces deux objets - le corps et le religieux - peut favoriser la constitution d'une anthropologie du corps et un renouvellement de l'anthropologie des religions. L'une des fonctions permanentes de toutes les pratiques religieuses est la protection du corps menacé (corps des individus et, par métaphore, "corps social"). Les religions sont des instruments d'intégration sociale et des moyens de différenciation culturelle permettant de poser à la fois la question de l'identité et du traitement social du corps.

    Description: Das am 27. Februar 1953 unterzeichnete Londoner Schuldenabkommen stellte ein Novum in der Geschichte der internationalen Schuldenregelung dar. Mit ihm wurde die gigantische deutsche Auslandsverschuldung des privaten und öffentlichen Sektors aus der Vor- und Nachkriegszeit geregelt. Als Rechtsnachfolgerin des Deutschen Reiches übernahm die Bundesrepublik die Haftung für die gesamten Vorkriegsschulden des ehemaligen Reichs. Die langwierigen und von zahlreichen Schwierigkeiten durchzogenen Verhandlungen erreichten, dass das Schuldenabkommen dem tatsächlichen Leistungsvermögen der Bundesrepublik angepasst wurde. Mit dem Londoner Schuldenabkommen wurde die Kreditwürdigkeit der jungen Bundesrepublik wiederhergestellt; es war damit eine Conditio sine qua non für die Wiedergewinnung der Souveränität der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

    Description: Wird der Begriff des "Königs" heute vorwiegend in einem engeren politischen Sinne verstanden und gebraucht, so war dies im ausgehenden Mittelalter anders. Denn neben den bekannten 'politischen' Königen existierten hier noch zahlreiche 'andere' Könige. Sie standen Berufsgruppen vor, führten Genossenschaften an oder wurden im Rahmen wiederkehrender Zeremonien und Bräuche zu Festkönigen gekrönt. Spielleute und Herolde, Prostituierte und Händler hatten ebenso ihre Könige wie Bogenschützen oder Adelsgesellschaften. Dabei ging es jedoch nicht um Rituale der Verkehrung oder gar um Akte der Auflehnung und Rebellion. Auch diese Könige besaßen klare Funktionen und Privilegien, eine handfeste Machtstellung innerhalb ihrer Gruppe und wurden darin von den Autoritäten akzeptiert, ja teils erst eingesetzt. Der vorliegende Band hält erstmals eine systematische Zusammenschau dieses bisher unbeachtet gebliebenen Phänomens und fragt anhand ausgewählter Beispiele nach der Funktion und der gesellschaftlichen Rolle dieser 'anderen' Könige in ihrem jeweiligen Umfeld. Damit legt er die Grundlagen für ein neues, innovatives Forschungsfeld und bereichert die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Königtum um eine neue, unerwartete Perspektive.

    Description: Le sol et l'immeuble propose une analyse des liens entre la croissance des villes et l'acte juridique qui en fut l'un des instruments essentiels, l'emphytéose. A partir du xve et du xiie siècle, les modalités de l'urbanisation entraînent l'apparition de formes dissociées de la propriété immobilière et l'émergence du droit de superficie. Depuis le Moyen Âge, les villes italiennes et françaises - et l'étude devra être élargie à l'ensemble de l'Europe - ont vu se multiplier les droits sur le sol et sur les immeubles que n'a pas abolis le Code civil. Le xixe siècle coïncide même avec un certain renouvellement de ces formes de propriété. Les parricipants aux Journées de Lyon ont voulu diversifier les approches, juridiques, économiques, sociales et architecturales, pour aborder à partir d'exemples précis un phénomène dont l'importance a sans doute été déterminante dans la formation de la ville médiévale et moderne.

    Description: Das Ergebnis der hier versammelten Beiträge mag überraschen: Aus unserer zeitgenössischen Perspektive vom Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts rückt der säkulare Bruch des Jahres 1945 zunehmend in den Hintergrund. Stattdessen wird der Zäsurcharakter des Jahrzehnts ab 1970 immer bedeutender. Um 1970 hatte sich die Struktur der Industriestaaten rapide zu verflüssigen begonnen. Diese für Europa und Nordamerika charakteristische Formation war geprägt von der Montanindustrie im festen Rahmen des politisch autonomen Einzelstaats. Sie hatte die Epoche der Weltkriege hervorgebracht mit völlig neuartigen Formen von industrialisierter Kriegführung, Gewaltexzessen und Genozid und, im Wechsel damit, Phasen tiefgreifender sozialer Reform und politisch-gesellschaftlicher Neuordnung. Das Ende dieses Industriesystems stellte auch die sozialen und politischen Handlungsmuster des 20. Jahrhunderts in Frage.
