Beschreibung: Fast magnetosonic waves modulated by low frequencies and propagating in the cylindrical layer of magnetic flux tubes are studied. A Schroedinger equation for the axially symmetric case is derived using cylindrical coordinates. Under certain conditions, this equation has a soliton solution and a study of the stability of the solution yields an estimate of the growth rate for the modulation instability. The applicability of these results to chromospheric spicules and the chromospheric network is examined.

Beschreibung: This review is devoted to studies of the Gould belt and the Local system. Since the Gould belt is the giant stellar-gas complex closest to the sun, its stellar component is characterized, along with the stellar associations and diffuse clusters, cold atomic and molecular gas, high-temperature coronal gas, and dust contained in it. Questions relating to the kinematic features of the Gould belt are discussed and the most interesting scenarios for its origin and evolution are examined.

Beschreibung: A new method is used for numerical solution of the nonlinear integro-differential radiative transfer equation for the evolution of a homogeneous emission spectrum owing to Compton scattering on equilibrium free electrons in an infinite uniform space. The temperature of the electron gas is assumed constant with no limits placed on it: the electrons can be both nonrelativistic and relativistic. The evolution of the spectrum is found to depend substantially on the initial dimensionless photon density. There is a bounday value for this density such that at lower values, there is a limiting equilibrium Bose-Einstein photon distribution, but not at higher values. In the latter case a quasi-line develops which shifts to shorter wavelengths with time while its width decreases and its maximum intensity increases. Calculations are carried out using two frequency redistribution functions of the photons, exact and simplified (assuming an isotropic distribution in the laboratory coordinate system). The results are compared with solutions of the Kompaneets equation.

Beschreibung: During survey of ESO/SRC plates of the Southern Hemisphere, we have found several dozen new HH objects, star-forming regions, and cometary nebulae [1]. There are also radial systems of dark globules in the vicinity of these new objects. Several regions, containing some of these objects, were observed on the 1.54 m telescope with several narrow band filters. In this paper we present the results of observations of two new radial systems of dark globules and several HH objects and also the results of 12CO(1–0) observations of the dark cloud, part of which is rotating with angular velocity Ω = 4.3∙10 −14 s −1 .

Beschreibung: The dynamic characteristics of spiral galaxies with absolute magnitudes M ≥ −20 m .6 in the Virgo and Fornax clusters are studied using data from the Merged Catalog of Galaxies MERCG. The galactic diameters from MERCG are used to determine the radius R D that defines the region of possible concentration of dark matter, and the dynamic parameters M dyn and M dyn /L B of the spiral galaxies are calculated based on the centrifugal equilibrium condition. Results from the theory of angular momentum transfer are used to estimate the central surface density m 0 and angular momentum K of stars in these galaxies. A comparison of the dynamic parameters of the spiral galaxies with M ≥ −20.6 and M ≤ −20.6 reveals a statistically significant higher fraction of dark matter in the spiral galaxies with M ≤ −20.6, at 26.3% in Virgo and 27% in Fornax.

Beschreibung: The behavior of the radial velocity of the UX Ori type star RZ Psc is studied. The existence of an inner cavity with a radius of about 0.7 a.u. in the circumstellar disk of this star allows to suggest the presence of a companion. A study of the radial velocity of RZ Psc based on our own measurements and published data yields no periodic component in its variability. The two most accurate measurements of V r , based on high resolution spectra obtained over a period of three months, show that the radial velocity is constant over this time interval to within 0.5 km/s. This imposes a limit of M p ≤10 M Jup on the mass of the hypothetical companion. Possible reasons for the observed strong fluctuations in the radial velocity of this star are discussed.

Beschreibung: The goal of this paper is to present an optical variability study of the comparatively faint carbon (C) stars which have been discovered by searching the First Byurakan Survey (FBS) low-resolution (lr) spectral plates at high Galactic latitudes using recent wide-area variability databases. The light curves from the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) and Northern Sky Variability Survey (NSVS) databases were exploited to study theit variability nature. In this paper, first in this series, the variability classes are presented for 54 N-type Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) C stars. One finds that 9 stars belongs to the group of Mira-type, 43 are Semi-Regular (SR), and 2 stars are Irregular (Irr)-type variables. The variability types of 27 objects has been established for the first time. K-band absolute magnitudes, distances, and height from the Galactic plane were estimated for all of them. We aim to better understand the nature of the selected C stars through spectroscopy, 2MASS photometric colors, and variability data. Most of the tools used in this study are developed within the framework of the Astronomical Virtual Observatory.

Beschreibung: We examine the structure and kinematics of the diffuse filament of galaxies lying between the Local Void and the Virgo cluster. For this we use a sample of 361 galaxies with radial velocities V LG 〈2000 km/s in the region of the sky with α (13 h .0, 18 h .0) and δ = (−5°, +10°). Individual distance estimates are currently available for 161 of them. The distribution of the galaxies with respect to their peculiar velocities along the strip manifests the known Virgo-centric infall for α 〈14 h , as well as signs of an outflow of galaxies from the Local Void for α 〉17 h . A majority (56%) of the galaxies in the Bootes strip belong to 13 groups and 11 pairs, of which the group around NGC 5846 is the most prominent. The groups in the Bootes strip are at distances of 17-29 Mpc from us, i.e., further than the Virgo cluster. The filament of galaxies in Bootes has a sum stellar mass of 2.7°10 12 M ⊙ and a total virial mass of 9.07°1013 M ⊙ with an average density of dark matter of Ω m = 0.09 , or a factor of 3 lower than the global cosmic average.
