    Description: The Holy Scripture was used as a form of pre- and postbaptismal catechesis in early medieval Constantinople. This volume presents an examination of the theological content communicated to catechumens through the Bible, and also the role of Scripture in Christian families and in the school system of Constantinople. Die Heilige Schrift wurde zu einer Grundlage für die christliche Unterweisung in Konstantinopel, indem sie im Gottesdienst zu jedem Tauftermin sowie nach der Taufe eine Art der Katechese darstellte. Zudem galt die Bibel als eine Basis für Erziehungs- bzw. Bildungszwecke in Konstantinopel. Der vorliegende Band beleuchtet aus theologischer Perspektive die etablierten Bibeltexte in der artifiziell zu verstehenden Zeitperiode zwischen dem 7. und dem 10. Jh., in der ein steigender Rekurs auf die patristische Schriftauslegung zu beobachten ist. Diese trug neben der Überlieferung des eindrücklichen theologischen Gehalts auch zur aktiven Einbettung der Schrift in liturgische Riten bei. Neben der Aufteilung der alttestamentlichen Perikopen fokussiert sich die vorliegende Untersuchung auf einige Evangeliumstexte, die sich als eine postbaptismale Katechese erwiesen. In einem abschließenden Beitrag wird die Rolle der Psalmen im Schulwesen und in den christlichen Familien untersucht.

    Description: The Queer Museum examines how relationships between institutions and LGBTQ+ communities function and how they help to define queer museum practice. Analysing what it means to queer the museum in Western contexts, the book builds upon and challenges texts about inclusionary, activist museum practice and discusses the ways in which Othered communities are engaged with and represented. Arguing that an institution’s understanding of queerness is directly related to the kind, and extent, of change pursued by the museum, the author clarifies that governance structures, staff hierarchies, funding and relationships to queer communities affect the way queering might be pursued. The analysis looks critically at exhibitions and institutions and particularly forefronts the experiences of museum practitioners. It argues that practical changes that positively affect museums’ long-term relationships with marginalised communities are critical.     Description: This book uses sustainability to explore the interfaces between translation studies, the cultural history of knowledge, and Science and Technology studies (STS). The volume examines various material, cultural and epistemic translation practices where sustainability serves as a boundary object between natural and cultural inquiry. By turning to the intellectual traditions that influenced but were left behind by STS and actor-network theory (ANT), we aim to challenge and expand the Sociology of Translation developed in ANT. Concepts such as ‘inscription’ (Derrida), ‘actant’, ‘narrative’ (Greimas), and ‘world/worlding’ (Heidegger, Spivak) were reemployed – translated – in the canonical STS-texts. What networks of meaning were left behind in this reemployment? The book showcases a combination of cultural and knowledge historical perspectives on the construction of the Sociology of Translation and practical experiments across the registers of nature and culture is novel. There have been brilliant individual attempts to realign the Sociology of Translation with narratives and modes of enunciation, but none has related the Sociology of Translation to the networks and traditions which enabled it but to which it erased its relations and debts. This innovative work will appeal to scholars in translation studies, cultural studies, environmental humanities, medical humanities, and Science and Technology studies.     Description: Dreams within dreams remind us of the treacherous nature of reality. This first comparative study on the subject reveals the diversity of dream-within-a-dream structures. Works of literature, film, TV series and comics from different cultures are analysed in close readings, uncovering their often complex and ambiguous shape. They are also placed in a broader cultural history of the dream. Der Traum im Traum kann Potenzierung des Traums sein oder in Abgründe falschen Erwachens führen. Diese erste komparatistische Monografie zu der Thematik zeigt nicht nur das Spektrum der Formen, sondern auch ihre Anbindung an grundlegende Fragen nach der Zuverlässigkeit der Wahrnehmung und der Realität der Welt. Im Rahmen der vergleichenden Untersuchung von Werken aus Literatur, Film, Fernsehserie und Comic aus diversen kulturellen Kontexten zeigt sich der Traum im Traum in all seinen Gestalten. Diese werden dabei in strukturalistischer Tradition als Traum-im-Traum-Strukturen begriffen.     Description: The ERC-funded research project BuddhistRoad aims to create a new framework to enable understanding of the complexities in the dynamics of cultural encounter and religious transfer in pre-modern Eastern Central Asia. Buddhism was one major factor in this exchange: for the first time the multi-layered relationships between the trans-regional Buddhist traditions (Chinese, Indian, Tibetan) and those based on local Buddhist cultures (Khotanese, Uyghur, Tangut) will be explored in a systematic way. The second volume Buddhism in Central Asia II—Practice and Rituals, Visual and Materials Transfer based on the mid-project conference held on September 16th–18th, 2019, at CERES, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany) focuses on two of the six thematic topics addressed by the project, namely on "practices and rituals", exploring material culture in religious context such as mandalas and talismans, as well as “visual and material transfer”, including shared iconographies and the spread of ‘Khotanese’ themes.

    Description: This chapter argues that to fulfil the interests of both the spouses and their original family, Maria projected herself as a Castilian infanta while Leonor built up the image of an Aragonese princess. The construction of the political identity of queens consort was a long and complex process, paramount to the subsequent performance and relevance in the configuration of monarchical power. In May 1428 Leonor of Aragon, while en route to Portugal to meet her husband, travelled to Valladolid to visit the king of Castile. In his last will and testament, he had entrusted her with the guardianship of their children and the regency of the realm. While the circumstances of their marriages were quite different and led them to assume distinctive identities from the very outset of their reigns, during their life as consorts Maria and Leonor adhered to a similar model of queenship, one they had learned from their mother.
