    Millimeter-Wave Radio-over-Fiber Links based on Mode-Locked Laser Diodes (2021)

    Description: Radio communications in the range of 60 GHz enable multi-Gigabit/s network access in indoor environments. Due to the propagation characteristics of such signals only very short range radio transmission is feasible. In order to distribute these signals across large distances, analog transmission over optical fiber is considered. In this work, mode-locked laser diodes serve as optoelectronic oscillators for the generation of such signals. Their system-relevant properties are studied in detail.

    Description: "To this day, the history of international law is dominated by a Eurocentric historiography in which non-European worlds play a passive role at best. Master narratives of universalisation and progress may include their histories; however, they appear not in the form of actors, but as mere receivers. By analysing the first Hispano-American textbook on international law, this transdisciplinary study questions this narrative of passivity. In his compendium, published in 1833, the Chilean polymath Andrés Bello translated European doctrines of international law for use in the context of the “New World”. Using a postcolonial approach, the study demonstrates that the imitation of the European discourse on international law was not a purely passive and submissive act, but deeply ambivalent behaviour which opens up a space for resistance and is reminiscent of Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of mimicry."

This work shows the technical feasibility of such a system by presenting a rideable prototype. The so-called braking dynamics assistance system prevents the cyclist from both front wheel lockup and rollover (along the vehicle’s transverse axis).

Ventile dienen dazu den Fluidstrom in komplexen mikrofluidischen Systemen, aus Einsatzgebieten wie der Biologie, Chemie oder Biotechnologie, zu manipulieren. Mit steigender Komplexität der Mikrosysteme steigt auch die Anzahl der benötigten, individuell steuerbaren Mikroventile.

    Description: "Hegels Rechtsphilosophie ist eine Art Logik der bürgerlichen Person im Sinne eines begrifflichen Kommentars zur Institution rechtsstaatlicher Gesetze. Sie analysiert methodische Stufen in der Ordnung explizit geregelter Praxisformen und kritisiert das klassische Naturrecht in seinem Intuitionismus und Kants Ethik in ihrem Formalismus. Das Institut des Eigentums rekonstruiert sie als erfahrungsgesättigte sittliche Form bürgerlicher Freiheit, auch wenn es im reinen Kapitalismus seinen Sinn verfehlen kann.     Description: This book examines the Vehicle-Routing-Problem with split-deliveries and alternative delivery periods (SDVRPA). It is solved with a Branch-and-Price-Algorithm. When alternative delivery periods and split-deliveries are employed, freight forwarders get a wider scope for planning and can therefore plan more efficient routes. Even with few alternative delivery periods, which allow vehicles to be used more efficiently, substantial savings can be achieved.

    Description: Die Frage nach der Verbindlichkeit des Rechts, die Frage also, ob dem Recht über seine äußere Zwangsgewalt hinaus eine verpflichtende Kraft zukomme, versteht sich nicht von selbst. Hat der aus der Trennung von Recht und Moral entspringende Rechtspositivismus doch zu der These geführt, daß das Recht – rein rechtlich betrachtet – zu nichts verpflichte. Das widerspricht allerdings den vorherrschenden sozialen Anschauungen. Sie verlangen folglich nach einer Begründung für den dem Recht zugeschriebenen Anspruch verbindlicher Maßgeblichkeit. Demgemäß ranken sich um die Idee solcher Normativität des Rechts Vorstellungen, Bilder und Begriffe, die eine innere Bindung durch Recht plausibel zu machen suchen. Es wird gezeigt, daß sich diese Konnotationen der Idee der Rechtsverbindlichkeit auf drei Grundfiguren zurückführen lassen, die der Grammatik der persönlichen Fürwörter korrespondieren.Der Autor ist Professor für Öffentliches Recht, Rechts- und Staatsphilosophie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Reflexes of humans and neural central pattern generators (CPGs) were used as archetype. With leaky Integrate-and-Fire neurons a generic reflex template was designed and put to work for several specialized reflexes. The designed CPGs were used to analyze robotik motion as well as for generation of locomotion patterns on a biped demonstrator.

    Description: In this work, a novel measurement system for the analysis of the gyrotron RF output spectrum was developed. It enables unprecedented time dependent measurements within a large bandwidth, dynamic range and unambiguous RF indication in the entire D-Band (110-170 GHz). Special attention was given to the investigation of parasitic RF oscillations, and the analysis of the interplay of thermal cavity expansion and ionization-based space charge neutralization at the start of long RF pulses.

    Description: Franz Rosenzweig ist bei uns - bedingt durch die nationalsozialistische Judenverfolgung - immer noch ein weitgehend Unbekannter. Dabei hatte er allein schon mit seinem zweibändigen Werk "Hegel und der Staat" (1920) wesentlich zur Neubelebung der gesellschafts- und geschichtsphilosophischen Diskussion beigetragen. Umwälzender ist jedoch der existenzphilosophische Neuansatz, den Rosenzweig mit seinem Hauptwerk "Der Stern der Erlösung" (1921) vorlegte. Es ist dies nicht nur eines der bedeutenden theologischen Werke des 20. Jahrhunderts, dessen Herausforderung - wenn auch verspätet - von den christlichen Kirchen heute mehr und mehr erkannt und aufgenommen wird, sondern das ihm zugrunde liegende Neue Denken ist auch in fundamentaltheologischer Hinsicht von einschneidender Bedeutung. An der kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Deutschen Idealismus gereift, wirft Rosenzweig die grundlegenden Fragen nach der negativen Begrenztheit unseres Denkens, dem existentiellen Grund unseres Daseins, nach dessen Zeitlichkeit und Sprachlichkeit sowie nach dem Anderen und dem Wir der Gemeinschaft auf - Fragen, die auch heute noch die philosophische Gegenwartsdiskussion bestimmen. Den vorliegenden Studien geht es um eine einführende Vergegenwärtigung der Existenzphilosophie Rosenzweigs von unterschiedlichen Aspekten her. sie versuchen sich dem Neuen Denken Rosenzweigs vor allem vom Entstehungskontext aus den Gesprächen mit den Freunden - Hans Ehrenberg, Eugen Rosenstock, Martin Buber - zu nähern. ihr Ziel ist jedoch kein philosophiegeschichtliches, sondern die Vermittlung der existentiellen Fragen Rosenzweigs an uns.

    Description: Während der alltägliche Umgang mit anderen Menschen in aller Regel gelingt, wird der Andere der philosophischen Reflexion zum Problem: er widersetzt sich jeder Konstitution durch das transzendentale Subjekt. Fast scheint es, als zerstöre die Reflexion hier die Unmittelbarkeit, mit der uns der Andere phänomenal begegnet. Der Autor unternimmt im vorliegenden Werk eine kleistsche 'Reise um die Welt' entlang der Denkwege bedeutender Autoren der existenzphilosophischen Phänomenologie: Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, Jean-Paul Sartre und Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Es gelingt ihm zu zeigen, dass die Problematik des Anderen in der Reflexion bei den besprochenen Autoren eine sich stetig vertiefende Umformung erfährt, die es ermöglicht, den Anderen und die Reflexion als Analogien einer tiefer liegenden Problematik zu begreifen. Die Reflexion erweist sich dabei letztlich nicht als Zerstörer einer alltäglich immer funktionierenden Unmittelbarkeit, sondern als Wegweiser in die Tiefen dessen, was wir Existenz nennen. Das Problem des Anderen wird hierbei nicht 'gelöst', es bedarf auch gar keiner Auflösung, wenn man begreift, dass die Unzugänglichkeit des Anderen nur die Kehrseite der Unzugänglichkeit des eigenen Selbst ist. Der Andere ist letztlich nicht mehr und nicht weniger rätselhaft als ich selbst es bin, und gerade in dieser Dunkelheit liegt das Wesen der Existenz.

    Description: Zusammenfassung Alte Menschen mit Hilfe- und Pflegebedarf, die in Altenpflegeeinrichtungen leben, haben nicht nur Anspruch auf eine qualitätsvolle medizinisch-pflegerische Versorgung, sondern explizit das Recht auf ein selbstbestimmtes Leben, das ihnen gesellschaftliche Teilhabe ermöglicht. Dazu verpflichten nicht zuletzt die Vorgaben der UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention. Das anwendungs-orientierte Forschungsprojekt „Selbstbestimmt teilhaben in Altenpflegeeinrichtungen“ hat Voraussetzungen zur Verwirklichung der selbstbestimmten Teilhabe von Bewohner*innen in stationären Einrichtungen der Altenhilfe analysiert. Im Rahmen einer sequentiellen Mixed-Methods-Studie wurden u. a. Interviews mit Bewohner*innen, Angehörigen und Mitarbeiter*innen sowie teilnehmende Beobachtungen in ausgewählten Einrichtungen und eine NRW-weite Online-Befragung durchgeführt. So konnten erstmals fördernde und hemmende Faktoren auf Ebene der Bewohner*innen, Mitarbeiter*innen und Einrichtung identifiziert und wichtige Anforderungen an die Teilhabeförderung praxisnah in einem Musterrahmenkonzept aufbereitet werden. Abstract Elderly residents of nursing homes do not only have the right to receive high-quality medical and nursing care, but also and explicitly to lead an autonomous life that enables them to partic-ipate in society. This right is not least stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The application-based research project ‘Autonomous Participation in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly’ analysed the prerequisites for realising elderly residents’ autonomous participation in their nursing homes. Within the framework of a sequential mixed methods study, the researchers conducted interviews with such residents, their relatives and care home staff, participatory observations in selected nursing homes and an online survey throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. As a result, they were able to identify factors which facilitate and restrict such participation from the perspectives of the residents, staff and the care home itself for the first time, and thus stipulate important requirements for the facilitation and implementation of participation within a framework model.

    Description: The aim of this work was to identify the patterns that can induce heating around implanted cardiac pacemakers during MRI and to develop strategies to counteract them. Two approaches were taken: computer simulations of the occurring electromagnetic field distributions and in-vitro experiments using phantoms in real MRI devices, both for conventional bore-hole and new open MRI systems. Using the open MRI, the observed heating could be reduced significantly.

Turkey’s autocratisation has led not only to strained interstate relations but to a deterioration of the social climate in Germany as a country of immigration. In addition, the issues of xenophobia and racism in Germany have repeatedly been raised. It can be assumed that the interplay between perceived discrimination in Germany and Erdoğan’s popularity as a self-styled ‘lawyer for Turks’ in Germany has resulted in greater susceptibility to populist promises and Turkish-nationalist identity-building. This empirical study examines how political views influence migration-related decisions of successor generations among people of Turkish origin in North Rhine-Westphalia who intend to (re)settle in Turkey.

    Description: Verbrennungsprozesse sind meist mit der Emission von Schadstoffen verbunden, weshalb sie möglichst schadstoffarm und energieeffizient geführt werden müssen.Bei den bislang dominierenden primären Brennstoffen sind aufgrund der gleichbleibenden Brennstoffeigenschaften langfristig optimierte Technologien und feste Regelungen einsetzbar. Zunehmend werden jedoch sekundäre Brennstoffe wie Prozessabgase oder Biomasse genutzt. Sie haben stark veränderliche chemisch-physikalische Eigenschaften und bewirken so einen veränderlichen Verbrennungsablauf der schwierig beherrschbar ist. Eine optimale Verbrennung lässt sich dann nur durch eine an den Verbrennungszustand und die Brennstoffe adaptierte modellbasierte Prozessregelung erreichen, die noch nicht Stand der Technik ist.Die Arbeit widmet sich im ersten Schwerpunkt dem modellbasierten Reglungsentwurf. Die theoretische Modellierung und der modellbasierte Entwurf adaptiver Regelungen für die Temperatur und die Sauerstoffkonzentration im Abgas wird am Beispiel einer halbtechnischen Brennkammer für veränderliche Brenngase analysiert. Berücksichtigt wird dabei das für Verbrennungen typische vorhaltbehaftete Regelstreckenverhalten.Der zweite Schwerpunkt bildet die online Messung und die rechnerba-sierte Auswertung von Zustandsgrößen am Beispiel der infrarotbasierten Temperaturmessung bei einem Feststoffbrennbett. Es werden neue Auswerteverfahren entwickelt, die sich u.a. auch bei der Regelung industrieller Verbrennungen bewährt haben.

Es gibt das Urvertrauen, die vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit im Betrieb, Ranglisten des Vertrauens in Berufe bzw. Berufsgruppen, die Vertrauensfrage bzw. den Misstrauensantrag im Parlament, den Vertrauensschaden im Recht und eine Asymmetrie im Aufbau und dem Verlust bzw. bei der Zerstörung des Vertrauens. Das Vertrauen der Konsumenten wird durch Kunstschinken und Analogkäse getäuscht bzw. auf eine harte Probe gestellt.     Description: Several in-depth studies have verified the positive impact of lean techniques on performance indicators in production environments. Studies performed on warehouse environments have partially confirmed this. This thesis helped to close the gap between the disparities in the level of evidence mentioned above. A study was conducted that included 16 warehouses in an observation group and 56 warehouses in a control group. These significant results help close the gap in the evidence.

    Description: The book is an analysis of the portrayal of nuclear power in Japanese journalism and the factors influencing it. Combining a field theoretical approach to journalism with frame analysis on different levels of the communica-tion process, the author argues that the nuclear industry in Japan used their financial power to build up a “pro-nuclear civil society” and that this frame-sponsoring is the reason for the relatively positive portrayal of nucle-ar power until 2011. After “Fukushima” the journalistic autonomy in this domain increased and journalism became a driving force of change in nuclear policy. At the same time the journalistic field became polarized because the more heteronomous parts of the field remain integrated into the “pronuclear civil society”. The book offers a new perspective on Japanese media and journalism scholarship, emphasizing heterogeneity and change in contrast to previous scholarship, that has focused on press clubs as institutions of pervasive media control.

    Description: This work presents investigates the feasibility of the ""directly steered wheels (DSW)"" under operating condition of tramcars. After analyzing the wheel/rail geometric contact between track and DSW, a mathematical model has been developed to describe the lateral dynamics. Based on this model, a robust guidance controller is designed according to the µ-synthesis. The results of simulations show that the DSW with the designed controller can improve the running performance of tramcars significantly.

    Description: August Ludwig Hülsen (1765-1809) was a contributor to the emergence of German idealism. Notwithstanding, his name and works are up to this day almost entirely unknown to most scholars in the field. This monograph discusses the historical importance of Hülsen's Prüfung der von der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin aufgestellten Preisfrage: Was hat die Metaphysik seit Leibniz und Wolf für Progressen gemacht? (1796), his only book, for the emergence of German idealism, especially the thought of Reinhold and Fichte during the 1790's. The usual way of focusing on the Wissenschaftslehre, and hence, on the emergence of German idealism, is as a “response” of Fichte to the skeptical objections of Schulze-Aenesidemus to Reinhold's early Elementarphilosophie. This “response”, as Fichte himself recognized in 1798, was far from complete. Hülsen, a Fichtean thinker, restructured and regrounded those aspects of Reinhold's system that Fichte left intact: in particular, Reinhold's almost forgotten approach to the rational history of philosophy. In 1797, Hülsen's achievement prompted Fichte's recommendation of Hülsen's book in Annalen des philosophischen Tons as an introduction to his Wissenschaftslehre. This indicates that Fichte recognized Hülsen as a partner in the development of his incomplete system. Accordingly, the historical importance of Hülsen's book is that it completed Fichte's attempt to overcome Reinhold's standpoint and contributed to the emergence of German idealism.

Für die Fragmentierung des Gels werden Parallelen zum Aufbruch hochviskoser Tropfen gezeigt.

Therefore, the studies focus mainly on the in?uence of crystal orientation as well as the investigation of crack initiation and crack propagation. With a defined crack propagation model, the simulations of microbending allows for evaluating the details of the fracture process more accurately and supported the experimental studies.

    Description: In an increasingly harmonized global patent landscape, few issues still distinguish the US patent system as much as its strict–and often criticized–duty of candor and its inequitable conduct doctrine. The EPO and most other countries around the world impose less burdensome disclosure duties upon patent applicants. What is there to learn from the experience in the US? Have these tools resulted in any benefit worth considering? Yet regardless of the disclosure duties imposed upon patent applicants, a deceptive conduct before the Patent Office could lead to unwarranted exclusive rights and have a negative impact on competition. Should antitrust law intervene? Is it a case of sham litigation? This work attempts to answer those questions through a comparative analysis, examining the law and case law in the US and in the EU from both a patent and a competition law perspective and seeking a workable theory of harm.

A problem of possible recriticality due to the sloshing motions of the molten reactor core is studied with SPH method. Diese Arbeit zur Lage der Philosophie und insbesondere zur allgemeinen Bestimmung der Existenzphilosophie ergänzt und erweitert Königs Darlegungen zur „offenen Unbestimmtheit“ des Heideggerschen Existenzbegriffs, die aus dem Nachlass im Dilthey-Jahrbuch 1990/1991 erschienen sind. Intensive Beispieldiskussionen und Einzelanalysen gelten vor allem den Prinzipien der Existenzphilosophie und der Struktur ihrer leitenden Begriffe. Im Vortrag „Bemerkungen zur Metapher“ (1937) entfaltet König den Gedanken, dass diejenige metaphorische Rede, die nicht ein im Prinzip ersetzbares Additum zur nicht-metaphorischen ist, eine wesentliche Möglichkeit der menschlichen Sprache darstellt. Sie kommt zwar zur nicht-metaphorischen Rede hinzu, aber wesentlich hinzu und konstituiert dadurch das Einssein der Sprache. Der zweistündige Vortrag „Verantwortung in der Wissenschaft“ (1952) erörtert den Begriff von Wissenschaft in Verbindung mit dem eines wissenschaftlichen Gewissens, das „anschaffbar“ ist, und legt die Eigenart der sittlichen Natur des wissenschaftlichen Wissens dar. Im Vortrag „Probleme des Begriffs Entwicklung“ (1958) geht König der Frage nach, wie prinzipiell begriffen werden kann, dass ein Wesen, das abstammt von Wesen, denen lediglich äußere Wahrnehmung zugeschrieben werden kann, zu einem Wesen werden kann, das auch innere Wahrnehmung besitzt.

    Description: Warm conveyor belts (WCBs) are weather systems that substantially modulate the large-scale extratropical circulation. As they can amplify forecast errors and project them onto the Rossby wave pattern, they are of high relevance for numerical weather prediction. This work elaborates on two aspects of WCBs in the context of ensemble forecasts: (1) sensitivities of WCBs to the representation of initial condition and model uncertainties, and (2) the role of WCBs for forecast error growth.

    Description: Anhand der Feldpost von 30 miteinander bekannten Mitgliedern einer Hamburger Turnerriege soll die Frage beantwortet werden, weshalb bürgerliche Soldaten im Ersten Weltkrieg eine relativ positive Einstellung gegenüber ihrem Militärdienst zeigten. Nach einer Analyse ihrer Militär- und Kriegserfahrungen stellt sich heraus, welche Aspekte des Kriegsdienstes mit bürgerlichen Werthaltungen vereinbar waren und dass daraus überwiegend eine gesellschaftliche Pflicht zum treuen Dienen abgeleitet wurde. Gleichzeitig werden jedoch auch die Fälle herausgearbeitet, in denen bürgerliche Soldaten eine Berechtigung zur Verweigerung empfanden.

    Image Analysis and Evaluation of Cylinder Bore Surfaces in Micrographs (2021)

    Description: This work presents two image-based inspection approaches for the quality evaluation of cylinder bore surfaces. In the first algorithm, metal folds on plateau-honed surfaces are inspected with scanning electron microscopy. An edge-aware structure tensor is proposed for feature extraction and localization of surface defects. The second algorithm uses a morphgraphical method for detecting graphite grains in optical micrographs. Based on the inspection results, quality parameters are proposed.
