Description:    The elastic-scattering reaction 30 Si + was studied using the Thick Target Inverse Kinematics technique. Data were taken at a 30 Si beam energy of 150MeV in a reaction chamber filled with 4 He gas, corresponding to the excitation region of 12-24MeV in 34 S . The data were treated in the framework of a simplified R -matrix approach, and energies, widths and spin assignments were obtained for 111 resonances in an approximative manner. The structure is discussed within the concept of -cluster structure in the quasi-continuum of 34 S and is compared to recent data for 32 S . Description:    Coupled-channels calculations for the elastic and inelastic scattering of K + at 715 MeV/ c by 6 Li and 12 C at 635, 715 and 800 kaon Lab momenta have been analysed. The optical potentials of 12 C and 6 Li are calculated in terms of the alpha-particle and deuteron optical potentials. Good fits to the experimental data and phenomenological calculations are obtained for 6 Li and 12 C nuclei. Content Type Journal Article Pages 1-7 DOI 10.1140/epja/i2011-11074-7 Authors A. A. Description:    The expression for polarized electric dipole moment of well-deformed reflection asymmetric nuclei is obtained in the framework of the liquid-drop model in the case of geometrically similar proton and neutron surfaces. The expression for polarized electric dipole moment consists of the first- and second-order terms. It is shown that the second-order correction terms of the polarized electric dipole moment are important for well-deformed nuclei. Description:    The production of intense beams of light radioactive nuclei can be achieved at the SPIRAL2 facility using intense stable beams accelerated by the driver accelerator and impinging on light targets. The isotope 14 O is identified to be of high interest for future experiments. The excitation function of the production reaction 12 C( 3 He, n) 14 O was measured between 7 and 35MeV. Results are compared with literature data. As an additional result, we report the first cross-section measurement for the 12 C( 3 He, + n) 10 C reaction. Based on this new result, the potential in-target 14 O yield at SPIRAL2 was estimated: 2.4×10 11 pps, for 1mA of 3 He at 35MeV. This is a factor 140 higher than the in-target yield at SPIRAL1. Description:    The production of Δ 0 (1232)-resonances in p + 12 C collisions at 4.2 GeV/ c was investigated with 4 π acceptance. The masses and widths of the resonances were obtained from ananalysis of foreground and background invariant-mass distributions of pπ − pairs obtained using an angular criterion. The fraction of charged π − -mesons coming from the Δ 0 (1232) decay was estimated and compared to those obtained in earlier analyses. The momentum, transverse momentum, kinetic energy, rapidity, and emission angle distributions as well as the invariant cross-sections of Δ 0 (1232)-resonances werere constructed in the laboratory frame. The freeze-out temperature of the Δ 0 (1232)-resonances produced in p + 12 C collisions was estimated and compared to the freeze-out temperatures obtained using different methods for Δ (1232)-resonances produced in other experiments with different sets of colliding nuclei at various incident energies. Description: .   In case of chiral U A (1) symmetry restoration the mass of the boson (the ninth, would-be Goldstone boson) is decreased, thus its production cross-section is heavily enhanced. The decays (through one of its decay channels) into five low-momentum pions. These pions will not contribute to measured Bose-Einstein correlations, thus the production enhancement changes the strength of two-pion correlation functions at low momentum. Preliminary results on Bose-Einstein correlation functions support the mass decrease of the boson. In this paper we propose a method to select pions originating from decays. We investigate the efficiency of the proposed kinematical cut in several collision systems and energies with several simulators. We prove that our method can be used in all investigated collision systems. Content Type Journal Article Pages 1-5 DOI 10.1140/epja/i2011-11076-5 Authors M. Description:    Benford’s law, also called the first-digit law, states that in lists of numbers from many quite disparate databases, the leading digit is distributed in a non-uniform but actually logarithmic way. We have investigated the first-digit distribution of experimental cross-sections of A ( n , ) B reactions. In the case of below-barrier -particle emission from compound nucleus, it is found that the ( n , ) reaction cross-sections approximately follow the first-digit distribution indicated by Benford’s law. The origin of this first-digit distribution is discussed within the framework of the statistical model. In addition, Benford’s law is used to test the evaluated cross-sections of A ( n , ) B reactions. Content Type Journal Article Pages 1-6 DOI 10.1140/epja/i2011-11078-3 Authors X. J. Description:    Using the available cross-section and polarization data for elastic electron-proton scattering, we provide an extraction of the two-photon exchange amplitudes at a common value of four-momentum transfer, around Q 2 = 2.5 GeV^2. This analysis also predicts the e + p / e - p elastic-scattering cross-section ratio, which will be measured by forthcoming experiments.
