Calcium Spikes of Nerve Cell Membrane: Role of Calcium in the Production of Action Potentials

Abstract

THIS communication reports the observation that the membrane of bullfrog sympathetic ganglion cells is capable of producing action potentials (calcium spikes) in an isotonic solution of calcium chloride in response to cathodal currents which are applied through an intracellular recording microelectrode1.
