Identity of Sporopollenins with Older Kerogens questioned

Abstract

THE most commonly used definition of kerogen is that of Forsman1: “the insoluble organic matter occurring in sedimentary rocks”. Thus, kerogen includes a range of composition from coaly material to the insoluble organic matter of oil shales. Kerogen may be amorphous or may indicate a biological origin.
