Effect of Thyrotropin on in vivo Iodine Binding in Thyroid Subcellular Fractions

Abstract

EXTENSIVE work has been devoted to the action of thyrotropin (TSH) on the thyroid gland, particularly with respect to the iodine metabolism1. However, the influence of TSH on the protein synthesis in the gland has attracted very little attention. The most interesting observations concerning the protein synthesis published so far demonstrate that TSH, administered in vivo, increases the RNA-content in thyroid homogenates2 and that TSH added to the incubation medium increases the uptake of α-aminoisobutyric acid-14C in thyroid slices3.
