Abstract

Excised floral apices of banana cultivars ‘Chandrabale’, ‘Rasthali’ (syn. ‘Silk’) and ‘Robusta’ were cultured on Murashige and Skoog's medium supplemented with cytokinins and auxins. These cultures reverted to the vegetative state and produced a mass of green leafy shoots which were kept in a state of active growth by systematic subculturing. Male flower clusters at different stages of development located on the peduncle subtending and distal to the meristematic zone reverted to vegetative state when cultured in vitro.
