Evaluation of early imaging response after chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma by phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopyinitial experience
2011, Journal of Vascular and Interventional RadiologyCitation Excerpt :The results of the present study indicate that PDE and NTP are the most sensitive markers after treatment that correlate with tumor response to chemoembolization. Based on in-vivo MR spectroscopy studies (24,25), the peak of PDE largely represents the activity of the membrane phospholipids themselves. From this observation, it can be inferred that the low PDE levels seen in patients with HCC after chemoembolization in this study may be caused by the reduction in viable cells, which have been replaced by necrotic cells.
The metabolism of water in cells and tissues as detected by NMR methods
2001, Progress in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance SpectroscopyCitation Excerpt :To our knowledge, no investigation of the dynamics of water in this organelle has been carried out by NMR methods. Interestingly, highly mobile phospholipids located in endoplasmic reticulum membranes have been proposed to cause the intense phosphodiester signal observed in low field 31P NMR spectra of liver and brain, revealing heterogeneous membrane dynamics within different organelles of the cell [154]. The translational diffusion of water in the nucleus has been studied using a similar approach to that shown in Fig. 4, but using avian erythrocytes which are nucleated cells [125].
