Effects of Arg-Gly-Asp-modified elastin-like polypeptide on pseudoislet formation via up-regulation of cell adhesion molecules and extracellular matrix proteins
2013, Acta BiomaterialiaCitation Excerpt :Although, β-TC6 pseudoislets were able to respond to a glucose challenge by secreting increased amounts of insulin, the magnitude of GSIS was smaller than the stimulation index of ∼2.5 known for freshly isolated pancreatic islets [21]. Low GSIS has been also observed with the pseudoislets formed by re-aggregation of rat pancreatic β-cell suspension [22]. Therefore, it seems that GSIS cannot be fully obtainable merely by a simple reconstitution of 3-D structures, or insulin secretory mechanisms are impaired in β-cell only pseudoislets.
