Abstract

The amphidiploid of the Nicotiana glutinosa × Nicotiana debneyi hybrid, which is highly resistant to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), produces an inhibitor of virus replication (IVR) constitutively, without prior infection. IVR was obtained from the intercellular fluid of uninoculated leaves of this hybrid. Based on criteria of biological and serological activity, electrophoretic mobility in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting, IVR from the hybrid was indistinguishable from IVR obtained from Samsun NN.
