Abstract

Selected parts of the German standard DIN 31 001, concerning reach through round and square finger-size openings, square hand-size openings, and 10, 20 and 30 mm slots, were tested for their applicability to the British female working population. Comparison was also made with the degree of protection given by BS 5304. Both standards afford protection, though of varying degrees. Significant differences in limb dimensions were found between the ethnic groups tested. The shape of the opening, square or round, was also a significant determinant of reach
