Two-quasiparticle states in 168Er
Abstract
The level structure of 168Er and the de-excitation mechanism in this nucleus have been studied by radiative capture of thermal neutrons in samples of natural erbium which give a cross-section contribution of 89.8±2.3 % for 167Er. Interference from the 9.1±2.1 % capture contribution of 166Er was well known from a separate study with enriched 166Er samples. Highresolution measurements of the γ-ray spectrum have been performed using the Karlsruhe Ge(Li) anti-Compton spectrometer below 2 MeV and a Ge(Li) double-escape spectrometer above 5.16 MeV. The high accuracy of the data allows the construction of a considerably extended transition diagram up to 2 MeV excitation energy. A large number of new levels has been assigned to specific configurations and their superimposed rotational bands. Conclusive evidence is given that the previously known states at 1094 keV and 1542 keV are the two-quasiparticle neutron levels [633 ↑ + 524 ↓]nn and [633↑−521↓]nn, respectively. Some aspects of the corresponding log ft values are discussed in detail. Rotational bands at 1354 keV, 1569 keV and 1542 keV have to be identified with the Kπ = 1−,2− and 3− octupole vibrational bands. The properties of the Kπ = 1− state are presumably close to those of the neutron level [512 ↑–633↓]nn. The 3− rotational member of the Kπ = 0− octupole band probably occurs at 1914 keV. The simple model of pairing plus state-independent octupole force provides a surprisingly good microscopic description of the octupole excitation energies. The first Kπ = 0+ band has been well established to occur at 1217 keV. Within the model of pairing plus quadrupole and spin-quadrupole force one obtains the interaction constants kq = 5.3 and kt = 8.8 (in units of ). The neutron level [521↓ + 642 ↑]nn has been tentatively assigned to a rotational band at 1893 keV. The properties of some other more or less collective states are discussed. No positive evidence has been found for the occurrence of two-quasiparticle proton levels below 1820 keV excitation energy. The neutron separation energy was determined to be 7771.24 ±0.48 keV.

Nuclear Structure and Decay Data for A=167 Isobars
2023, Nuclear Data SheetsExperimental nuclear spectroscopic data are compiled and evaluated for 17 known nuclides of mass 167 (Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er Tm, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt), 23 years after the previous full evaluation by 2000Ba65. Detailed information is presented for each reaction and decay experiment. Combining all the available data, recommended values are provided for energies, spins and parities, and half-lives of levels, with energies, branching ratios and multipolarities of γ radiations, and characteristics of β and α radiations in radioactive decays. The α decays of A=171 nuclei to A=167 daughters are included in this work, while for α decays of A=167 nuclei to A=163 daughters, consult Nuclear Data Sheets (2010Re03) or the ENSDF database for A=163. 167Er, 167Tm, 167Yb, 167Lu and 167Ta are among the most extensively studied nuclides via decay and high-spin gamma-ray spectroscopy measurements, followed by 167Ho, 167Hf, 167W, and 167Os. Information for excited states in 167Dy, 167Re, and 167Ir are limited; no excited states have yet been identified in 167Sm, 167Eu, 167Gd, 167Tb and 167Pt, with the ground-state half-life of 167Sm remaining unknown. This work supersedes the earlier evaluation of A=167 nuclei by 2000Ba65.

2017, Nuclear Data SheetsThe experimental results published before February 2017 from the various reaction and decay studies leading to nuclides 158Nd, 158Pm, 158Sm, 158Eu, 158Gd, 158Tb, 158Dy, 158Ho, 158Er, 158Tm, 158Yb, 158Lu, 158Hf, 158Ta, 158W in the A=158 mass chain have been reviewed. These data are summarized and presented, together with adopted level schemes and properties. Large sections of the mass chain are almost identical to the ones in the previous 2004He05 NDS publication by R.G. Helmer.

Nuclear data sheets for A = 168
2010, Nuclear Data SheetsNuclear structure data pertaining to all nuclei with mass A=168 (Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt) have been evaluated and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. This evaluation supersedes the previous publication (V.S. Shirley, Nuclear Data Sheets 71, 261 (1994) (literature cutoff date July 1993)) and subsequent ENSDF file revisions for Tb and Dy (C. Baglin, literature cutoff date of 15 June 1999) and Hf (B. Singh, literature cutoff date of 30 April 2001), and includes literature available by 15 June 2010. Since the above evaluations, the first excited states in 168Pt have been identified (1998Ki20, 2009Go16) and α decay from 172Hg has been observed (2009Sa27, 2004Ke06, 1999Se14). New levels in 168Dy have been excited using the 170Er(82Se,84Krγ) reaction (2010So03). (HI,xnγ) studies have significantly expanded our knowledge of level structure in 168Lu (1999Ka17, 2002Ha33), 168Ta (2008QiZZ), 168Yb (1995Fi01), 168Tm (2007CaZW), 168Hf (2009Ya21), 168Os (2001Jo11, 2009Od02) and, for 168Tm, important information has come also from (d,2nγ) and (α,nγ) reactions (1995Si20). Revised decay schemes are available following new studies of 168Hf ε decay (6.7 min) (1997Ba26), 168Lu ε decay (1999Ba65), 168Ta ε decay (2007Mc08) and 172Au α decay (2009Ha42). Significant new information for 168Er is available from (p,t) (2006Bu09), (d,p) and (t,d) (1996Ma50), (γ,γ′) (1996Ma18), (136Xe, Xγ) (2010Dr02), (238U,238) (2003Wu07) and (n,γ) (1998Be20, 1998Be62) reactions, and the availability of γγ coin data (1994Ju02, 1996Gi09) for the (n,γ) E=thermal reaction has resulted in some significant level scheme revisions.
