Abstract

Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory with approximate projection of particle number is used to calculate the nuclear moment of inertia within the framework of the cranking model. The plot of the moment of inertia Θ versus the square of the angular velocity ω2, gives an S-shaped curve the socalled “back-bending” effect.
