Abstract

The factorization of the multiparticle S matrix previously conjectured in various two-dimensional space-time models is established. It includes factorization equations needed for the determination of the two-body S matrix.

Absence of particle production and factorization of the S-matrix in 1 + 1 dimensional models

In massive, 1 + 1 dimensional, local, quantum field theories the existence of two conserved charges is shown to be a sufficient condition for the absence of particle production and factorization of the S-matrix. These charges must commute and be integrals of local current densities. Their transformation properties under the Lorentz group must be different and also different from the transformation properties of a vector or a scalar. Also, they must not annihilate any single-particle momentum eigenstate.
On one-dimensional integrable quantum systems with infinitely many degrees of freedom

We study one-dimensional quantum systems whose S-operator conserves the incoming momenta and particle identities. A survey of systems with known S-operators and an approach for solving them rigorously are presented, and several problems and conjectures are formulated. Subsequently, this approach is used to arrive at relativistic dynamics whose S-operators are those of the Ising model in the scaling limit and of the Federbush model. An invariance property of the wave and scattering operators is discovered and argued to hold at the classical level, too.
