Abstract

Two rockets carrying calibrated photometers have been flown into auroral glow for measurement of the volume emission profile versus height of the N2+ First Negative band (0–1) at λ 4278 Å. Luminosity profiles with maximum emission at about 100 km were recorded. The lower borders of the profiles appear to be rather sharp, with half-value distances from the maximum of 2–3 kilometers. The upper half-value distances were in the range 8–11 kilometers. Simultaneous measurements of the N2+ First Negative band λ 4278 and the [OI] green line λ 5577 were made from the ground.
