Matching, transport and bunching of four 40-keV ion beams with an electrostatic quadrupole channel

Abstract

A MEQALAC-type rf-accelerator is under construction at the FOM-Institute in Amsterdam. The objective of MEQALAC ($\text{M}$ultiple $\text{E}$lectrostatic $\text{Q}$uadrupole $\text{A}$rray $\text{L}$inear $\text{A}$ccelerator) is to accelerate four N⁺ beams from 40 keV to 1 MeV by means of a radio-frequency electrical field. Design considerations for the $\text{L}$ow $\text{E}$nergy $\text{B}$eam $\text{T}$ransport (LEBT) section and experimental results on the transport of mixed N⁺ and N₂⁺ beams will be presented.
