Abstract

A MEQALAC-type rf-accelerator is under construction at the FOM-Institute in Amsterdam. The objective of MEQALAC (Multiple Electrostatic Quadrupole Array Linear Accelerator) is to accelerate four N+ beams from 40 keV to 1 MeV by means of a radio-frequency electrical field. Design considerations for the Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) section and experimental results on the transport of mixed N+ and N2+ beams will be presented.
