Abstract

A comparative study of the valence bands of α-U, UPt and ThPt by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggests itinerant 5f electron behavior in the weak ferromagnet UPt. The Pt 5d bands are strongly influenced by dilution and hybridization.
