The diffraction pattern for a double hexagonal close-packed crystal containing deformation stacking faults is derived under the assumption that the crystal is infinite in size with faults covering entire basal planes and distributed at random. It is found that such faulting broadens only reflexions with HK ≠ 0 mod. 3, L = 0 mod. 4, 1 mod. 4, 2 mod. 4, and 3 mod. 4. The broadening is equal and symmetrical without any shift in the position of the peaks.
