Abstract

Photosynthesis seems to depend upon chlorophyll and its combination with a colloid carrier. Some factors are favorable for the activity of the chloroplastinsymplex and some are unfavorable. Light is necessary for the formation of chlorophyll in the higher plants. Pressure as such does not inhibit the formation of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll fails to develop in compressed carbon dioxide. The development is subnormal in compressed oxygen. It is above normal in compressed air. Fatigue sets in if the stimulation goes beyond the optimum time exposure. The stimulation may be due to conditions favorable to the chloroplastinsymplex. The fatigue may be due to depressed metabolic activity.
