Summary
For a 3 years interval the authors calculate the daily zonal and meridional index at 55° and the 500 mb-level as well as meridional exchange coefficients, the number of long waves and their average tilt. The correlation coefficient between zonal and meridional index is near zero. Grouping the data according to the large-scale weather-patterns of Europe and corresponding circulation types, no significant differences of meridional exchange can be found.
