Summary
Using a two-dimensional linearisation model of lee-waves the author determines the altitudes of maximum updraughts and downdraughts, which with good approximation can be located in the middle between two adjacent nodal lines. The pattern of isolines of the relative humidity in the layer 700 to 600 mb with stability and mean wind speed taken as parameter forms as indicator for the formation of clouds and precipitation after a cold front passage in Vienna and is compared with this simple model.
