Derivatives of 18 amino acids with dilituric acid have been prepared and analyzed.

The optical-crystallographic data have been determined for these 18 new compounds. Photomicrographs of these diliturates have been made.

A method of identification of various amino acids based on the optical-crystallographic properties has been proposed. This identification can be carried out on a microscopic slide with very small amounts of material.
Zusammenfassung
Die Derivate (Salze) von 18 Aminosäuren mit Dilitursäure (5-Nitrobarbitursäure) wurden hergestellt und analysiert. Die kristalloptischen Daten wurden bestimmt und Mikrophotographien der neuen Verbindungen sind dieser Veröffentlichung beigelegt.
Ein Verfahren zur Kennzeichnung der Aminosäuren auf Grund ihrer optischen Eigenschaften wurde ausgearbeitet. Eine kleine Menge der unbekannten Aminosäure wird mit einer gesättigten Lösung von Dilitursäure behandelt. Die Mischung wird erwärmt und die sich abscheidenden Kristalle werden von überschüssiger Lösung befreit und getrocknet. Die Brechungsindizes werden mit Hilfe des Polarisationsmikroskopes bestimmt, worauf die Aminosäure unter Bezugnahme auf die beigelegten Tabellen der optischen Konstanten identifiziert werden kann. Lysin kann besonders leicht auf diese Weise erkannt werden.
Das vorgeschlagene Verfahren eignet sich zur Erkennung der folgenden Aminosäuren:d-l-Alanin,l-Asparaginsäure,l-Cystein,l-Cystin,d-Glutarsäure, Glyzin,l-Histidin,l-Oxyprolin,d-Isoleuzin,l-Leuzin,d-Lysin,d-l-Methionin,β-Phenylalanin,l-Prolin,d-l-Serin,d-l-Tryptophan,l-Tyrosin undd-l-Valin. Die Verbindungen der Dilitursäure mitβ-Phenylalanin undd-l-Valin geben je zwei verschiedene kristalline Phasen und die beiden Formen besaßen in jedem Falle verschiedene optische Eigenschaften.
