Abstract

Multivariate statistics — regression and principal components analysis are used to study the chemical data on 93 pairs of coexisting biotite and garnet. The dependence of the distribution coefficient on compositional variables both in garnet and biotite is demonstrated by regression analysis. The use of eigenvalues and eigenvectors is made to obtain values of transformed distribution coefficients which are found to be significant in distinguishing among rocks formed at different pressure and temperature.
