Summary
Poly(ethylene glycol) precipitation and two aqueous phase separation were examined as possible techniques for the large scale isolation of a microsomal fraction enriched in 11-α progesterone hydroxylase activity from the filamentous fungus Rhizopus nigricans. Both techniques concentrated the enzyme and increased its specific activity between 1.5 and 2.0-fold, but with low yield. Cell debris needed to be removed before PEG precipitation and also before two aqueous phase separation.
