Summary

An ET-AAS method using platform atomization is proposed for the determination of magnesium in gallium arsenide. The sample is decomposed with nitric and hydrochloric acids and the diluted solution is injected into the furnace. No significant interferences from the matrix up to 4.0 mg GaAs ml−1 were observed by using the proposed procedure. The detection limit (3 σ) is 0.12 μg Mg g−1 in GaAs. Improvements should be achieved by a better control of contamination sources. Results obtained by analysing undoped GaAs samples are presented.
