Optical absorption spectra of erbium iron garnet (ErIG)

Abstract

Absorption spectra of the transition4 I 15/24 I 9/2 have been measured in erbium iron garnet (ErIG). From these spectra the exchange tensors for four Kramers dubletts can be obtained. A tentative analysis of these data in terms of a phenomenological exchange Hamiltonian will be presented.
