Abstract
The adsorption of oxygen on cobalt oxysalts is shown to increase in the order: Co3(PO4)2, CoMoO4, CoTiO3, CoFe2O4, CoCo2O4, i.e. with increasing ionicity of the X−O bonds in the anionic groups. This is interpreted in terms of increasing electron donor properties of Co(II) ions at the surface of the solid on increasing the ligand field of oxygen ions due to the polarization of X−O bonds.
