Vitamines — Hun rol in de stofwisseling en toepassing in de humane geneeskunde

Abstract

Function, metabolism and need of vitamins are discussed, together with their therapeutic application. Vitamins are not only used for treating vitamin deficiency, but also for preventing it.

Samenvatting

In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van de functie, het metabolisme en de behoefte aan de verschillende vitamines. Daarnaast wordt ingegaan op de therapeutische toepassing van vitamines. Behalve aan het gebruik van vitamines bij het behandelen van vitaminetekorten, wordt ook aandacht besteed aan de profylaxe van vitaminetekorten, bijvoorbeeld bij een verhoogde vitaminebehoefte. Ook wordt ingegaan op de toepassingen van vitamines bij ziektebeelden die niet direct of herkenbaar zijn gerelateerd aan een vitaminetekort.
