Summary
A capillary zone electrophoresis method has been developed for monitoring the rate of cleavage of basic oligopeptides. This method is particularly applicable to monitoring the cleavage rate of peptides where the specificity of the proteinase dictates against the presence of bulky chromophores. The kinetic parameters determined for the cleavage of a related chromophoric substrate were directly comparable. The kinetic analysis of intrinsically or mutationally induced inefficient enzymes can be facilitated by this approach.
