Abstract

A concept of local simulation of the fatigue life of shell-type thin-walled structural elements is formulated. An experimental method for determination of the life of thin-walled weld Joints of pipe is presented. The life of a structure is determined on the basis of a test of local models of it providing similarity of the parameters of the fatigue failure process. The results of fatigue tests of welded T-joints of pipe and of models of them are presented. It is shown that special selection of the geometry of the model makes it possible to “reconstruct” on it values of lives close to the corresponding values for a full-size structure with a significantly lower variable repeated load than for the structure or with a different character of it.
