Conclusions

The methods of31P NMR spectroscopy have been used to show that the organylchlorophosphoranes exist as mixtures of ionic and molecular forms in solution. The position of the equilibrium point in these systems is determined by the solvent and the nature of the substituents in the chlorophosphorane.
