Summary

  1. 1.

The theory of prototropic tautomerism is generalized to the case of systems havingn labile hydrogens, and A acceptor centers. A formula is obtained which relates the experimental dissociation constant of the tautomeric compound to the dissociation constants of each tautomer, and to the tautomeric transformation constants.

  2. 2.

Criteria are given together with ways of finding all the tautomeric transformation constants, and each of the dissociation constants.

  3. 3.

A relation is set up between the thermodynamic parameters of the tautomeric equilibrium and the quantum chemical characteristics.
