Conclusions

The short-length tunnel-type kiln for chamotte parts, designed by the All-Union Institute of Refractories and fired with liquid fuel, turns out from 70 to 75,000 tons of acceptable produce per year, which rates with the best output figures for similar kilns working on hot generator gas.

It is considerably simpler to fire parts with liquid fuel than with hot generator gas.

If kilns of this kind are constructed, there is no need to build additional gas generator stations.

For the first time in the operation of tunnel-type kilns in the refractory industry it has been possible to successfully burn high-calorie liquid fuel utilizing hot primary air from the cooling zone.

Under the system developed for operating the kiln and the output achieved, the specific consumption of natural fuel amounts to 69–72 kg per ton of acceptable output at a calorific value of the fuel Q PH =9370 kcal/kg.

The method developed for burning the liquid fuel in the tunnel-type kiln and the design of the burner unit ensures that the brickwork of the firing zone, and of the kiln as a whole, operates reliably, despite the fact that air with a temperature of 800° or more is being fed to the burners. This is shown by the excellent state of the embrasure, wall and roof brickwork in the firing zone after continuous operation for a year.
