Abstract
Magnetic transitions are described by the critical indicesα∼0,β∼1/3,γ∼4/3 while some ferroelectric transitions appear to giveα∼0,βR~1/2,γ∼1. It is pointed out that these two sets of values for the critical indices are allowed by the scaling laws and stability conditions near the phase transitions.
