Abstract
We have observed x rays from the electron bombardment of heliumlike argon in the KSU EBIS ion source. The yield of x rays versus electron energy displays strong dielectronic recombination resonances and excitation thresholds. By normalizing to a single resonance strength, cross sections for dielectronic recombination and for 1s excitation are obtained from the data for different radiative decay channels. The results are in good agreement with theory.
