Abstract

The dielectric response of single crystals of betaine phosphate in the antiferrodistortive phase is studied between 64 and 400 GHz. The dielectric data can be explained on the basis of a single Debye relaxation with a slowing-down of the relaxation frequency on approaching the antiferroelectric transition temperatureT c2. A theoretical description of the dielectric behavior of betaine phosphate and the highly deuterated compound is possible within the frame of the modified one-dimensional Ising model.
