Summary

The paper demonstrates the existence of singular stress layers in normal cross-sections of helically reinforced hollow cylinders. The material is assumed to be an ideal fibre-reinforced material. The theory is illustrated by its application to the problem of a linear elastic, balanced angle-ply cylinder which is ringclamped at both ends and subjected to internal pressure.
