Summary
An old problem by jeffreys about the effect ofelastic afterworking on a seismic pulse is recomputed assuming most recent data on anelasticity of the Earth. At great distances the method of steepest descents is used; the contribution of the saddle point near the pole is here taken into account. The resulting effect is resembling the firmoviscous rather than the elastoviscous one.
