Description: | Research Report Summary: The relations between rate of snow accumulation, snow density, snow age, and depth below the surface are formulated in terms of a compactive viscosity factor, which is assumed to be a function of only density and temperature, with parameters which will vary with the snow-type sequences of different climatic areas of high polar glaciers. The theory could be useful in an analysis of the data obtained from the large number of snow pits in Greenland, Ellesmere Island,and Antarctica. |
