Es werden Wachstumsmessungen an Bodenpilzen mit exakten Methoden und unter kontrollierbaren Bedingungen durchgeführt.

Für Rhizoctonia solani werden Einzelheiten zur Herstellung bodenähnlicher Kultursubstrate unter Berücksichtigung von Bodenfeuchtigkeit, Nährstoffgehalt, adsorbierenden Bestandteilen und Wasserstoffionenkonzentration mitgeteilt.

Am Beispiel der Antagonistenpaare: Bacillus subtilis → Rhizoctonia solani und Penicillium chrysogenum → Bacillus mycoides wird gezeigt, daß Aussagen über die Antibiose von Mikroorganismen auf Agar, Sand, einem Sand-Torfgemisch und Komposterde erheblich voneinander abweichen, und daß Rückschlüsse auf das Verhalten von Bodenpilzen in ihrer natürlichen Umwelt aus Laborversuchen nur dann gezogen werden können, wenn diese einen großen Teil der wesentlichen Bodenfaktoren berücksichtigen.
